TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Debadged/Black Bumper/Rusted Chrome", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
We,I finally debadged the truck late this afternoon. (too dark on completion for pictures)
I also noticed some rust on the inside of my rear bumper a while back, and I spoke with the service manager at my dealership last week about it. He indicated that the factory service rep was going to be in on Thursday, so I took it in for a look.
Unfortunately (according to the FSR) the corrosion on the bumper is caused by the magnesium choride they use to de-ice the roads here in Colorado (no sh*t, Sherlock), and as such, is not covered under the warrantly (sited environmental conditions).
The dealer (service manager) pulled me aside and said he wanted to "do right" by me, and asked what I thought. I mentioned that I'd be content getting the corrosion off and getting the bumper powder coated, so he stepped up and I'm taking it in tomorrow morning to get the rear bumper pulled for black gloss powder coat (a pretty close match to the factory paint, but much more durable).
I should have it back on the truck by Wed. or Thurs. and I will post pics of the completed blackout of my 07 DC.

That is a great dealership for them to do that for you. My front chrome grill surround has a bunch of little dull spots that I cannot get rid of. My dealer will replace it under warranty. I didn't want to deal with the same issue with a new chrome grill surround and asked them if I could get the color match surround, they wouldn't do it for me. I cleaned it with Eagle One Never-Dull and went over it with Mother's Chrome Polish, it didn't help. You can still see the dull spots all over the chrome. It worked great for the rear chrome bumper to remove the rust and protect, but not the front grill. Any suggestions?
