TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Rust already front and rear bumper", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
It do suck living in Salt Belt states. Thats one of the great things about our DOT only applying peat gravel to the roads as opposed to salt. But we do buy lots of windshields as a result. I have several big rock chips all over my windshield.

ARRRGH! Rust. Me too. I saw someone state that there is a new part number for the bumpers and that Toyota will replace them? If this is true, I sure would like to have those part numbers. Bruce
I want to see some pictures of this rust from you guys. Is this an exaggeration or for real rust on the outside of the bumper? Were you in an accident or hit-n-run and the metal is now rusting? Does the rust look like my grandmother's lawn furniture?
This thread is worthless without pics.

I saw some small rust spots on my back rear bumper around the corners. What I used to get rid of it was some chrome/stainless steel polishing paste and no more rust spots. It works great, I was surprise when it wipes out the rust spots clean. You can get them at any Menards stores. It works great around the front fog lights and chrome bumpers/grilles. Just an idea for people instead of trying to replace the bumper which will eventually start having rust spots again after each winter season.
I have the same thing... and I have yet to see a truck around here that doesn't have it. Any truck; Ford, GM, Dodge, Nissan...
It's just cosmetic surface rust (likely caused by brake dust and other road contaminants that stick on there and don't get washed much during winter) and wipes right off with some chrome or metal polish, as was previously stated. Not a big deal

Add mine to the list as well. Both front and rear, but the front is much worse. 10k miles on the truck. Also , I noticed the dealer dented all the center caps on the wheels when they did the rotation.

I totally agree. 10 months and 15K, I haven't seen ANY rust on my truck. Pictures would sure help me know where to look.

Wow, mine definately doesn't look like that. Those center caps look terrible. I would definately make the dealer replace them if they are the ones that did that to them.

Tell me about it, I was pretty pi$$ed when I saw that. Unfortunately, I have to travel this week for work, otherwise I would be in the shop first thing in the morning. I know the new car director at the dealership pretty well, so I sent an email to him hoping he can get the ball rolling for me. I think I am more upset at the caps than the rust....
I live in the desert (sw idaho) and I have the rust spots starting on the outside corners of my rear bumper at 5k miles. I never leave the truck dirty or wet and park in the garage. My 95 tacoma and 97 expedition were never kept as clean and dry and the chrome on those bumpers is still rust free.
I'm sure it will disappear with a quick hit of any wax, metal polish, etc. but it's not lilke it won't be back. I'll complain at the dealer when Ilm there for something else, but would definately wait for anything like replacement until it's confirmed that ones with thicker plating are available. It's not a big deal as long as they replace it, but it is sad since the chrome bumper was the one thing on all my prior trucks that stayed shiny year after year with basically no attention, polishing, etc. (it's a couple sets of polished aluminum wheels on other truck that really suck up the elbow grease and taught me to love chrome - we'll excluding the cheapo chrome on these bumpers .
