Bumpers were replaced. Supposedly a new finishing treatment for the metal. part numbers 52111-0c020 frnt ($480.24 N/c under war) 52151-0c060 rr($484.08). No doubt the salt and snow sped up the process, but I started seeing rust 6-8 weeks after purchase. There is some sort of problem with at least some of the bumpers. I'd say get it checked out.

Exclamation Re: Rust already front and rear bumper

Well, was in the dealer yesterday. They agreed to replace the center caps as that was their fault.

Now for the bumpers, I was pretty much told to pound sand. They said that living in Colorado and the mag chloride on the road will eat the bumpers. I told them I had a 03 Tundra and 01 Tacoma and never had an issue. I referred them to this site and the service manager just told me that if there was any issue with the bumpers rusting, he'd know about it. I asked them to call into Toyota and they told me that they have no one to call into and to call customer service myself. No kidding, they gave me the 1-800 number to call.

I do not have a lot of faith in the service dept after this incident. I also talked to my friend there in sales and he was going to see what he could do to help. He did ask me if I was having any issue with the tailgate and I said no, but I know it is an issue and Toyota was aware and fixing the problems under warranty. He said, "that is funny, I had two guys come in here with this issue and the service dept said they knew nothing about any issue and would not fix it for them". I again referred him to this site. I did call Toyota today and they opened a case number for me and said that I would get a call back from a case rep within a day. They did also apologize for the dealer telling me to call them directly. They asked me what it would take to resolve this, and I told them new bumpers.

Stay tuned...
I have faith that Toyota will make things right, the dealer I am not so sure of.

Ok, just got off the phone with Toyota again and the Regional rep will be at the dealership on the 9th of June and I have an appointment to meet with him to look at the truck. There was no indication of what is going to happen, but they told me that they wanted to get this resolved for me immediately. I'll keep everyone posted.

OK, just got back from the dealership and met with the Rep. To say the least I am not very happy. In the end I got Toyota to replace the bumpers, but not without a fight. The rep tried to tell me that living in Colorado we have to live with the mag-chloride and that I must not let it sit on my truck more than a day. And that a car-wash will not get it off and I have to wash it by hand. He told me that there are nicks in the bumpers where the rust spots are and are more than likely from rocks hitting the bumpers. He said that this is not covered by warranty and is considered environmental. At this point I was starting to get upset and told him that neither of my previous two Toyotas ever had this issue and they have been through much more abuse. He said he could not state if the new Tundra had thinner plating or what, but basically this is what I should expect for living in Colorado. I told him I was a big proponent of Toyota, but that if this is what I have to expect, then I will never buy another Toyota and get rid of this one. He then kind of huffed and puffed a little and told me that he could replace the front bumper under good faith this one time only and not under warranty. I asked him if he knew about anyone else having this issue and he did say yes but it was different circumstances and not like mine. I could really tell he did not want to replace my bumpers and he thought he was done when I asked him about the rear. He really him-hawed around and said that I should get a polish and just clean it up real good. I said, but there is rust just like the front and it will come back too. He then him-hawed some more and then said he would replace the rear as well. He told the service manager to order them up and he had to leave for his next appointment. I mean, I am glad I got them to replace them, but I don't appreciate the attitude I was given and him acting like he is doing me a big favor, because this is really my fault. And if I wouldn't of fought back a little, they would of probably not replaced them. I will say that I have always liked Toyota and they have treated me well in the past, but this whole experience has left a severely bad taste in my mouth. This is not what I would of expected...

the rep sounds like a jerk....its not like the cost of replacing the bumpers are coming out of his paycheck....you either replace it or not, the fact that he was conflicted speaks volumes.....Toyota knows they have a issue but are worried about releasing the floodgates.....

I know that this is an older tundra but take a look at these pictures of the rear bumper at 120K. This is due to me not washing the inside of the bumper after offroading and Ohio's famous road salt. Paid $365 new for a factory Toyota bumper. Another $50 to replace 2 of the 3 step pads that I broke off when removing the old bumper.
