Damn, that's actually very ingenious. I'll have to track one of those down when I rotate tires.

if i had a forklift that could lift 10,000 lbs, i would have just put the extensions on the forks and grabbed it from the side and lifted the whole truck in one shot

When I worked for United Airlines this was a normal operation when we had to fix a tire on the airport ramp. One time we had to change a tire on a 130,000 pound aircraft tug on the road way between a 747-400 and a 767 wide body. We had 2 35,000lb forklifts and a rhino jack and 3 10 ton floor jacks and 2 10 lb sledge hammers.just to get the tire off. If you place the forks correctly you can lift anything

Nice. Hope you used some kind of Jack Stands.

I knew a guy that lived fairly close by who didnt use a jack stand when working under a vehicle. it fell on him and he was found a few hours later by his dad i think (RIP)

Exact same thing happened to my (former) neighbor. Had an old car up on a jack, but there was no jack stand. Moreso, the jack was on un-level ground (grass to boot). It gave out and crushed him. My wife is the one who found him, actually. That was an intense phone call...

Needless to say, my wife (who can't tell a phillips screwdriver from a circular saw) now knows what a jack stand is, and how important it is to use them.

As bad as it was that Mark died so horribly, the worst part about the whole story is my wife's family bought his house, and now I live next to my in-laws. So please, folks. Use jack stands so someone else doesn't have to live next to their in-laws.

Cheers!

and no, i didn't use any jack stands. the forks don't move once they are up. it'd take like a week for the hydraulics to "leak" and lower the truck a few inches. i couldn't even get the truck to rock hardly at all while on the forks

If a hydraulic line were to burst, those things would crash down in a heartbeat.

I was just going to say the same thing, but otherwise it is a great idea. That would have helped out a lot when I did mine.

Wouldnt take much for some jerk to be chatting away with someone and lean back on the lifttruck and accidentially hit the lever, lowering the whole thing down on someone.

I know very, very unlikely but most accidents are a series of unlikely events.

Spend some time on a occupational health and safety comittee and you can see how often "that would never happen" really does happen.

I still like the idea and I do have a 15,000lb forklift sitting right next to me. What was the forks resting on?
