Default anyone warp brake rotors yet?

i'll admit i kinda do drive my truck a little hard- not as hard as the patrol car at work but i feel work habits rubbing off on my personal life. plus i tow a boat all summer long as long as the weather is nice so....i noticed yesterday in a sudden brake situation when some dumbaz cut me off on the highway that my rotors are warped....ive got 13k on the ticker...anyone else have to have the rotors turned yet and how much? im not complaining about the issue because i dont think its a flaw....i think its driver induced so oh well.

Yours is the first I have heard. I am at 23,000 miles, and there are others here with a lot more miles than that.

Front Susp: Stock coilovers, 4" lift (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...6-4-inch-lift/), swapped extra spacers for Bilstein 5100s on lowest setting, wheel well height still 41.5." Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43." Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper. After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/, 295/70, or 35x12.50/18. Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now. Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed. Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

I assume because it is a wear item Toyota will not cover it (I realize you are not asking for them to, but should anyone else have this same problem). Do you downshift to help your braking when you are towing?

If you're backing into the water or you park your truck outside during rain it's quite possible you have some hard spots on the rotors from residual surface rust that embedded itself into the rotor material. In this case they are technically not warped, but you feel the shaking from the pads intermittently grabbing better onto the softer parts of the rotor. If your pedal isn't pulsating you have hard spots - the only way to get rid of those is to have the rotors machined or replaced. Driving through large puddles with hot brakes will do the same.

Most older toyotas I've owned had this problem - mostly from the brakes being too small for the vehicle's weight. The tundra's brakes should be better than average due the size, but it's possible to warp any brakes if you ride them alot putting lots of heat into them, especially when towing.

naw. i know what that is...its definetly a jigglein sensation from warped rotors....i do routinely downshift when slowing but the hardest ive ever braked was last summer when the lady was standing in the middle of the highway attempting suicide in front of our truck with boat in tow....i stood on the brakes and it stopped well. i dont feel it under normal driving only when slowing from oh lets just say upwards of 70mph... but not hard enuf for ABS to engage jsut enuf to squeeze on the brakes a bit. ill have them check them next tiem i go in for service and see what they want to turn them...and no, i dont hack in far enuf to get into the water - trailer tongue much too long to need to do taht....but i do occasionally splash a water puddle for fun....

Brakes are a touchy subject. I am very gentle with my brakes and they seem to last forever. I never hold the brake down after a long hard stop as the contact of the pad to the disc will contribute to warping the rotors. I will usually either put in park and release the rear brake or move forward a foot every few seconds to put contact to other areas of the rotor. My last Tundra had warped rotors at 27k miles so we'll see and it had over size mud tires so do all my trucks and this Tundra will be now different prior to winter. I'll keep you posted, but right now with 850 miles not warping yet.

Mine are warped at 28xxx miles. Pads are fine with lots of life. Minor warping , noticed them most when coming down the grapevine the other day. (in california on I-5).
Dealer wants 180 to cut rotors and recommend new pads ~60 at the same time too.
I drove her hard when I first got her but not in the last 15000 miles though. Guess the beefy looks don't hold up to use. Never had this problem on my ford dually

Interesting.

In need of my 3rd set of rotors on my '01 Super Duty in less than 70,000 miles.

Prior to '05, the Ford brakes were tiny in comparison to the current Tundra's rotors.

Even after '05, the 3/4 ton >Super Duty rotors are "almost" as large as the 1/2 ton Toyota's.

In 10,000 fairly hard miles, my Tundra brakes are pulsate/warpage free.....

My Super duty made it to 110,000 km before it needed a set of front pads. Didn't turn the rotors but they are starting to pulsate now at 159,000 km. That was pulling a 12,000 lb 5th wheeler.
The Tundra has 25,000 km & so far no issues.
