Question for you Tundra owners when buying a truck
Maybe this has been asked and if so, please shoot me the link and I'll be glad to read it. But either I'm a retard and couldn't find it in the search or I just didn't look hard enough. Anyway, question when buying your truck what are the items/acc. you had to have or would get again when buying. Or things you would leave off to save money and buy away from the dealer cheaper. For instance:
1. All weather mats...don't buy them at the dealer get the aftermarket ones mentioned on here.
2. Skip the NAV/camera and go aftermarket as they are better equipped(Pioneer or Kenwood). OR get it as it has the camera there.
3. TRD or no TRD if you are going to put a lift on it(yes, plan to do some mild offroading on job sites)
4. Leather or no leather
But you get my drift...you have to decide what to get ON the truck when buying to make it easier in the long run. Thoughts?

1. Factory all weather mats are useless, trade them for a hood protector or clear bra, or if you can get them to get you weathertech liners, do that.
2. Love my stock back-up camera, LOVE it.
3. Leather is a great idea in my opionion because it's easy to clean and keeps dust out of the interior. Cloth seats always absorb a lot of crap.
4. I didn't go with TRD because I don't do off-road at all. But then again, I put a small lift and tires on that make it feel like a TRD.
5. If they try to use the "we'll give you a drop in bed liner" routine, tell them to pound sand. You're going to get line-X anyway. And trust me, you'll get line-x.
6. Running boards are a good idea. At first I didn't want them, no I'm glad that I have them to protect the rockers and to keep the passengers from stepping on the painted door sill.
Hope this helps....happy buying!

1. Don't get the clear 3M lifetime warranty bra at the dealer, you can get the same product at half the price elsewhere.
2. You can buy the front skidplate from Toyota with a coupon for about $350 and the option on the sticker is just over $500.
3. I did go with leather and got the scotchguard gaurantee.
4. If you want satellite radio without the add on dash unit get it from the dealer from day 1 because you can't add it later except through the dealer anyway.
5. I agree with the above post about the steps/nerf bar. Didn't get them and added them later but would have preferred the Toyota brand unit.
6. Ask them to take out the bed liner if your truck has one in it.
7. I had the dealer remove my TRD stickers and it was no problem.

You can add it later. You can add either XM or Sirus whenever you want without having to do a separate dash unit. I'd be willing to bet it's much cheaper to add it later anyway.

.
actually u can. look on ebay for example. its all a plug and play thing, several companies make sat kits to add onto factory systems that can control tehm, like ours. crutchfield has them and ebay has several. most cars with an aux input at the very least can be retrofitted with a concealed tuner etc and use the factory head unit....others like ours with the SAT button can be added and get full controls just like factory. i dont know what the cost is when new but it would probally be easier and cheaper when new but its possible afterwords....
Re: Question for you Tundra owners when buying a truck
Wow guys...thanks for all the good input! Just an FYI, what I'm looking for is Salsa Red CM 4x4 with tan interior. Has to have sunroof and leather. I will want Sirius, but if that can be added after the fact that's fine. The Metro kits are nice with the Pioneer and you can add an Ipod, sirius, etc to it. But like you said, ebay has kits too. From searches I would settle on a Truxxx lift kit, aftermarket backup camera, and Line-X for the bed. Now on rails I saw in the "best Tundra on this forum" there is a black truck that I like his. I'm not a fan of the tubular ones or ones that hang low so there is a big gap. I like Calh4289's, tampadaves, and Sleepy57's rails on their trucks. Not sure which ones they have, but they are all clean and would look clean on Salsa Red. Looks like I can save some $$$ and get the SR5 and add whatever I want later.
BTW...Wildbill Tundra's truck is the "Best Looking Tundra"!
