TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tail-light BLACK out", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Has anyone thought of, or did the Headlight Black-out mod, to their tail-lights. I was looking at them today, and though it would be B.A. if someone did it. It would be the same as doing the headlights, only tail-lights. I am doing my headlights, and front badge this weekend. Then I might think about doing the taillights after I get my 3" lift on.

I would highly suggest not messing with them, especially heating them. I melted one and had to buy a replacement.

Watching Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse is the best place to watch a college basketball game. The atmosphere is perfect. No luxury seats, all bench seating, and every seat has a good view. The students sit close to the floor and everybody cheers from one hour before the game to the final seconds. By the end of the game, whether you are a Jayhawk fan or not, I promise you will be singing "Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk."
same here, I warped and cracked one, only put it in the oven at 210 for like 7min. The plastic is too thin, when i went to pry it apart with minimal force it cracked. Not the same type of glue or plastic as the headlights. was very upset when it happened but luckily found one on ebay for cheap.

Just get them tinted. I had the touch up guy and my work tint them for me. He sprayed them with a light coat of black and then cleared them. Then buffed them to a shine.

Yeah the tail lights do NOT come apart like the headlights. The fact that the lens is only held to the housing via sealant should tell you that. The lack of screws is what gave it away for me and made me decide to not even try.
The only way is either spraying it, as suggested, or using the vinyl film. Speaking of which my film should have arrived already, maybe I should look into where it's at? Lol.

Some good news! I sent an e-mail to Recon Truck Accessories (Recon Accessories: Home) this morning seeing if they had plans to release their LED lighting products for the Tundra. Well, their reply to me was that they were! They are currently working on Tail Lights, 3rd Brake Lights, and Projector Headlights!
I suspect that the Tail Lights and 3rd Brake Lights will be available in the same options as their already released products for Dodge, Ford, and GM....Smoked, Dark Red/Smoked, Red, and Clear. And again these are all LED.
