TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "finally purchased a Tundra last night", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
After months of reading these forums and getting a good feel of the new Tundra, I finally decided to look for the one I wanted a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the package I was looking for was very hard to find (SR5 DC 5.7 2wd XSP package with the JTI wheels) around here and I found just 3 total Tundras within a 50 mile radius. Luckily they had one in the color I wanted (silver) at the closest dealership and it arrived last night.
I traded an '05 4Runner V8 for the Tundra and right now I'm having a REALLY hard time getting used to the size of this thing! I didn't realize how massive it really is. I'm almost 6'5", and the top of the bed comes up to my shoulders. I do love it though, it's nice to be able to pull up to a new f-150 and actually look down on the thing.
A few things I do miss however that I had with the 4Runner:
- Leather wrapped steering wheel
- Radio text (and the radio reception is a LOT worse than my 4Runner was)
- Steering wheel audio controls
Of course all of those could have been found if I had jumped up to a Limited, but I was really hoping to find an SR5 with those things. Oh well, I'm still happy.
And on my way to work this morning, another silver Tundra pulled up next to me, and the guy looked over, smiled and nodded his head.

The wait for my Tundra to get shipped over here from California is killing me! At least I still get to drive my wifes 04' 4Runner V8 once in a while, hopefully she doesn't want to trade me when my truck gets here.
Welcome to Tundra world. Looking down at a F150 is one thing. Sitting next to just about any truck and knowing you can blow their doors off just increases the pleasure. The local Dodge Hemi's don't even try me any more. So now I am burning less gas as a result.

Are you running a pro comp lift or something, I am 6'4"-6'5" and its a tall bed, but it comes to my mid chest with a 3/1 lift and 34" tires. If its at your shoulders at 6'5" then you must have a crazy long neck.
That aside, conrats on the new ride. I really wanted the audio controls in the steering wheel too, but they won't sell a limited TRD in Canada for some odd reason so I went for the SR5 instead.

Times pulled out zero, I am afraid I may need to bend down to reach a towhook to get pulled.... thanks cardata video, you helped me dodge a bullet.
Congrats!. I have a Silver one as well!. Did you get the Fender Flares with yours? At first I liked them and wanted to get them for my DC but now I don't know anymore.. Sometimes I think it looks cleaner without them.. Maybe looks too similar to the Tacoma with them on. I dunno.. I'm on the fence.
20in wheels seem to really help fill in the Wheel wells though!
Well, maybe not to the top of my shoulders, but between my upper chest and my shoulders. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. Either way the size of this thing is going to be the hardest adjustment for me. Once I get past that, I won't be so nervous driving it!
And yes, the XSP package comes with the fender flares. I'm like you, I like them with or without, and haven't decided which I like more. I figure that maybe they'll protect the paint a little better.
