TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Bluetooth hesitation when talking", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was reading a thread about Bluetooth voice recognition on Tundras and it made me think about a problem I have with mine. So as not to hijack that thread I have started this one. By the way, I don't seem to have much trouble with the voice recognition as long as the windows are up.
When talking using Bluetooth, there seems to be a delay between when I speak and when it gets transmitted to the other party. Also the other way around. This is really anoying and has caused many instances when we both speak at the same time. It is sometimes so frustrating that I just turn off the Bluetooth on my phone and talk the old fashioned way. There seems to be about a 1 to 2 second delay.
In my 05 Tundra I had a Bluetooth speaker that clipped to the visor that worked much better than my current "expensive" system. No delay at all.
Has anyone else noticed this delay, or am I just lucky?
I have it too but nowhere near 2 seconds....probably more like 3/4-1 second but enough to be a little annoying sometimes. I'm not a power phone user so it hasn't bothered me enough to spend any time trying to fix it.

There are a lot of cell phones out there and just as many different versions of bluetooth in them. Your transmission problem may stem from compatibility issues with the version of bluetooth your phone has and phone/bluetooth phones that Toyota supports.
I have also noticed that bluetooth signal strength can vary from device to device and 'reception' may be a factor of where your phone is placed in the cab.
I also have a delay as well with my blue tooth, about 1 second but I still love using it, even know I may talk at the same time as the person on the other end!
My Razor is the same way, completely useless with the trucks bluetooth. With the delay I would end up talking over or interrupting the person on the other end. Its gotta be the phone.
I think it may have alot to do with the phone. My iPhone works 500% better than my old RAZR.
I use my handsfree all day and love it. My father has the handsfree in his Lexus 460L and it's a very similar system if not the same.
I'm 6'5", so maybe I'm closer to the mic which helps???
I have used many phones (used to get a new one every six months or so) with several different Bluetooth systems. I'll give you the skinny from my opinion.
There is a slight delay only initially with my Bluetooth, from when I answer the phone. After that, things seem right on par. I currently (and for a LONG time will) have the iPhone and find that it works better than any other phone I have encountered. I'm incredibly satisfied witht he function.
The other vehicles that I have used were all Lexus models (06 Lexus GS350 AWD, 07 Lexus RX350, 07 LS460/LS460L - I worked at a dealership, and spent a great deal of time with the cars). The systems are pretty much the same, except for the material that surrounds them in the cockpit lol.
I'm 5'11", so I don't know how much height is a factor...
just my thoughts...

Hmmmm....Some interesting info here. I have an older Motorola Razor, so that may be my problem. Hadn't thought about the different Bluetooth versions. That may be why my cheap visor microphone worked so well with my phone. It was a motorolla also. I wear my phone on my hip which keeps it buried in the seat somewhat.
Tomorrow I'm going to lay my phone on the consol and see if that helps. I'm due for a new phone and have been looking. I'll have to see if I can get the Verizon sales person to let me try a couple in the truck.
