Hauled an entire truck bed load of non split rounds (firewood) and a full trailer last week, she didn't even know the load was there. Will admit that the air ride bags make a big difference when your really loaded down. Oh and I picked up some new scratches and dents as well!...grin

So how much weight total was in the bed and on the trailer?? I mean I'm sure you didn't put the whole rig on a scale but what would your estimate be?? Oh be careful of the weight overload police lol.

I haul a 8000 pound bobcat on a 20 ft trailer about once every 2 weeks, truck pulls it like champ. Dont know how heavy the trailer is but i think that is using the truck to the fullest.

I couldn't even guess what the load weighed, I do know I was tired as hell after loading it. The bed was full above the rails of roughly 18" x 12-18" diameter rounds not yet seasoned (so they were wet) and neatly stacked, maybe 1000-1500lbs. The trailer had roughly 6-8 ft long peices not cut down averaging about 18" diameter and each I would guess were 200-250 lbs ,maybe 2 dozen of em. Wasn't near enough weight to warrant a second thought by looking at the truck. This Tundra will work, that I assure you.

Question to the guy who put 3k in his Tundra... Why would you want to risk damaging your pickup by over loading it by 1,500lbs? Not to mention you over exceeded the load rating on your "D" rated tires.
I didn't add up the weight til I was done with the haul. I knew I was over but didn't think it was near that much because it wasn't down to the bump stops . My payload is 1835# so I was over by 1290# .My vehicle weighs in at 5215# so my total weight would have been 8340# . The front and rear axle ratings combined add up to 8150# so I was only over by 190# that way. As far as the tires you're way off . Just read the rating off the sidewalls and my P rated Michelins are 2469# each . Times 4 that's 9876# so the tires were the only things that were in limits. Like I said , I knew I was over but I thought it was only by 5 or 6 hundred pounds and really added the weights later .Wouldn't do it again if I could avoid it, but there were no problems. I think the frame is a strong one despite what its detractors say to the contrary.

You should have 13. The change jar holder is perfect for a coke can. The other ones in the front let the can wiggle and slide too much.

Howz that sound?

The cargo capacity will be exceeded with the addition the tongue weight...My 04 Tacoma cargo capacity was exceeded with the same amount without any problem, so I guess it will be the same with the Tundra

Pics to come...
WHOA!!!! thats crazy!!!! I wouldnt take a risk if your whole family is in the car. If you have to do it try getting a lot of that 1400 lbs of cargo in the trailer. The truck can do what your saying but it cant do it safely.

If your going to be towing 7300lbs you should be looking at around 15% hitch weight putting you at about 1100lbs possibly as low as 750ish if its only 10%. Lets just say 1000lbs

1000lbs hitch weight
1400lbs in the bed of the truck
+6 people in the truck. Guessing some kids so about 450-500lbs?

If you can get all the payload in the travel trailer and have a good weight distribution hitch id go for it. I just wouldnt take the risk unless it was a short trip and you werent in a lot of high traffic area's.

Also make sure your tire pressure is high enough. I dont wanna sound like the "weight police" and tell you what's safe and whats not. I wouldnt do what you described above though.

Good luck and definitely post pics and let us know what you got planned.

What exactly are you towing and putting in the bed>?

people have been loading and overloading trucks for years and im sure just a fraction of them wish they hadn't. drive into a new neighborhood, tons of 90's model trucks loaded down to the bump stops with carpet rolls etc and the next week they are fine. trucks are trucks, glad to hear people are using them. yes it may prematurely age or wear things out but thats their deal let them if they want. the manuf rates thigns just to keep their butt out of a sling in case somethign fails and we all know they would be conservative so they arent looking at a lawsuit after the fact sayign "dam we should have backed off the payload rating 500 lbs and we'd be covered"...no they allow what they want so they dont get close to anything failing because they said it would be ok.

So far, the "fullest" use of the Tundra I've had has been me plus 5 kids (yes, I have the front bench in a Crewmax), and an over the bedrails load of split wood. It was sagging a bit, but it didn't look too bad. I would bet money that I was over gvwr, but not by a lot.

I agree that most folks will occasionally overload there trucks, but probably don't do it often. Just like a previous poster, I also used to have a 3/4 Cummins Dodge. That was a great rig, but a huge pig to drive around. Mine was a 2002, and although I loved the engine, it was making me deaf! I usually had nowhere near the max in that truck, which is why I eventually sold it.

If I slightly overload my Tundra once or twice a year, I do not think that it will adversely affect the longevity of the truck. YMMV.....
