TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Full use of the Tundra", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Post just to know situations where you have used your Tundra at its most. Combination of space, rack, weight trailering and cargo..
For my situation, in 1 month, I'll be travelling 15000 miles with 6 persons in the truck, hauling 1400 lbs of cargo in the bed and pulling 7300 lb travel trailer.
Howz that sound?
The cargo capacity will be exceeded with the addition the tongue weight...My 04 Tacoma cargo capacity was exceeded with the same amount without any problem, so I guess it will be the same with the Tundra
Pics to come...

I'm just thinking out loud here....
You said " Familly of 5 (6, 5, and 3 years old + 1 soon or later) "
How you going to fit 4 kids back there in a DC...or even a CM for that matter?
If you have a car seat for the baby, that's 1 seat, then a booster for the 3 year old, that's another seat, where you putting the other 2 kids?
Just curious?
But the trip sounds like fun, I love road trips, wish I was going......no room though..

Maybe it is a Tundra Grade truck which has the front bench seat.
I was sort of pushed into it because of cicumstances but I went to pick up a bunch of slate tile for a customer and ended up with 3125 lbs. on the truck counting myself . I shifted some of the tile to the space behind the seats on my RCLB and some to the floor on the passenger side . The bed was dead level measured from the ground and it didn't feel bad at all . I was very cautious of bumps etc. on the way back 'cause I didn't want to hammer my suspension which was about 3/4 of an inch from the stops but it did fine . How's that for full use ?

Sounds like some brutal gas mileage! definitely pushing the tundra, good for you, hope its a fun trip.....
So far I only hauled my 2 month old child, Great Dane and my wife and I. I am looking at possibly buying a toy hauler tent trailer or just a tent trailer. With the price of gas not sure we will get back into ATVs again.
Question to the guy who put 3k in his Tundra... Why would you want to risk damaging your pickup by over loading it by 1,500lbs? Not to mention you over exceeded the load rating on your "D" rated tires.

Whats the load rating on the stock tires?? 2500lbs a piece? If so he wasn't really pushing it that bad because he had the load evenly spread in the long bed and most of the weight of our trucks is over the front tires. The guy in this thread with 1400lbs in the bed, plus tongue weight of 7300lbs campers, plus 6 people will be pushing it also with your math. As long as people drive with caution and don't push it too much this truck is more than capable enough to handle 1000 or more lbs over its "rated" capacity. This is IMO.

And people wonder why I only buy new. I hate to be the used owner of that guy's Tundra once he's done with it.
I guess once you own a 3/4 ton and then a Tundra it's difficult to understand why people overload their rigs when there's other trucks more capable. All the undo stress on the bearings, transmission, engine frame, and axle is not needed. I will NEVER tow more than 8k lbs and put in 1,500 lbs in my Tundra and the person that buys my Tundra will have a great truck that will last forever.

Definitely buying new is better IMO also. Get the warranty and peace of mind that nobody else did anything abusive to your rig before you drove it. Everybody knows that overloading vehicles is bad for them though but sometimes it just has to be done...Like the guy who loaded 3125lbs...He had to do it for a customer...he doesn't do that all the time. As long as we all use our common sense we'll be good.

Today was the toughest load yet. I had the truck carry a 20 ounce Coffee from Bruegger's. Does that count?. =P.
Thank goodness for the 5.7!!!

You obviously havent driven too many Toyota trucks very hard, they take a beating and show little for wear, thats why so many of us drive Toyota trucks! If I put the American trucks I have owned through what I have put my Toyotas through I would have lived at the dealership! Dont baby them, just makes em weaker!
