TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dad bought new Tundra 5.7L on 03/16/2008", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Just letting y'all know that I finally got my dad to trade in his junk 1997 Ford F150 3Dr 4.6L.
He got a 2008 SR5 4x2 Tundra Double Cabs 5.7L, 10K lbs tow package, tinted windows, Auto LSD, gray cloth seats, bed liner etc.., It feels like night and day!
I love the acceleration on the Tundra 5.7L engine!
Many issues on the F150: Engine light will not go away with many parts replaced, differential leak even after 2 gaskets replacement, axels bearing replaced, engine misfired for the past 3 years, 3rd Dr won't closed all the way (doors won’t automatically locked and cab lights stay “ON”).
Broken power windows, Speedo lights out, Speedo doesn’t work sometime.
Alignment goes out often, shift handle broke off, ABS lights never go away after cleaning and replacing all four brakes and bleed all four lines.
Sparkplug wire get blown out from spark plug on cylinder#6 often, windshield washer work 25% of time, has to replaced two magnetic coils, two rims cracked (luckily we can find lots of used rims in the junk yards for cheap), and many more issue to list on here.
Most junkyards people recognized us...that are how often we visit the junkyards for Ford F150 parts for the past 5 years.
I have a question for y’all new Tundra owners. Can you enable the Auto LSD permanently? It seems that you will have to enable it every time you start the truck. I know...it will sucks some performance out of the truck with auto LSD enabled. My dad is not techno savvy. Thanks.
why would you want the auto LSD on all the time???? I would only put it on when your in a situation where you need it.
Im not sure on this and hopefully someone can say for certain but i dont think the LSD works after like 30-35mph. if its dry pavement and your not pulling anything and dont think your tires will slip i would leave it off.
The traction controls that are on your vehicle will do the job well in dry weather, in the rain, when towing etc... Only time you will need LSD is when your in loose gravel, rocks, a boat ramp, if your pulling someone or something.
If you just want to open up the rear differential so you can squeel the tires and turn off all the traction controls just hold your traction control button down for 3 seconds and a light with a car with swiggly tire marks will come on a long with a VSC OFF (Vehicle stability control) light will show up.
Hope this helps. Also run a few searches on this website and you can find a lot of info on the traction control stuff.

I thought Auto LSD only work in low speed traction? I did noticed the "swiggly line" light on the left side of the Speedo and "AUTO LSD" light on the right of the Speedo...when I hold on the button down for a few seconds. OK...I will leave the Auto LSD off until the road is wet or muddy.
One more question...how good does the Auto LSD work when mudding or driving on a soft ground like loose sand and mud? We goes fishing often and did not want to be stuck in the mud if the Auto LSD does not work that well. Thanks again.
i prefer taking all the traction nanies off when in sand or mud. I dont like that groaning sound that comes when the brakes engage with the auto LSD. and only really use it if im climbing something or on gravel and dont want to mess up the drive way by slipping my wheels.
But i dont know whats best when off road. I leave all the nanies off for fun and if i get stuck or i approach something that looks iffy i put it in 4x4.

Traction Nannies are for noobs!!! Never needed them in my FJ60 and I drove the $hit out of that rig every where in snow, mud you name it. Only nanny on that thing was the door locks. That was the first thing I read in my manual to learn how to disengage that crap. I just wish I could unistall it from the OS. Worthless. Even ABS is worthless to me. How hard is it to pump your brakes.
A noob is someone who is new at certain things...in this case....They meant someone who can't drive. By the way I am a NOOB on this site so I'm officially saying hello to everyone! Here's more pics of my truck for anyone who wants to see them.

YEA, and they are people that belong in small cars. Thats where the danger is, all these people that never drove anything that had any azs behind it driving big suv's or trucks.
