Default 2008 Base V6 Cruise Control - Help

I had my dealer install the cruise stalk and harness to add cruise control to my 2008 base v6. According to the service tech, it didn't work because of the instrument cluster. I'm not sure what the instrument cluster has to do with the cruise not working, but am looking for solutions so that I don't have to purchase an aftermarket cruise unit. Has anyone hooked up the OEM stalk and harness on a 2007 or a 2008, and is there more to do than just the stalk and the harness?

I did my own cruise install on my 07 RC. I had add 2 wires. One to ground and one to a particular terminal on the ECM.
If you'll give me a day or 2 to find my info I'll tell you where the wires connect.

Maybe the cruise uses the speedo to get it's speed reading.
