I also think I mentioned (at the bottom of my post) that the angles should be cut so it has a larger opening as someone else suggested at the time. But overall...
I was thinking about cutting at the opposite angle also, but I think it would leave a larger opening on the hook that might rattle back and forth.
I too had been thinking about this mod for a while and I finally got around to tackling it this week. The first time it came to me was when I removed the interior of the truck to wrap it in sound deadener.
Hopefully I will have the amps installed this weekend, although things always come up and take longer than you anticipate.
Do you think the stock JBL amp/subwoofer could be relocated to behind the seat after this mod to free-up some room for the underseat storage?
Gives you access to wasted space behind the seats for tools or amps or whatever you can put back there.
Thanks for a GREAT mod, every little bit of room is used in my truck.

I installed my stereo setup behind the folding seats. I get to keep my storage box and have a system in my car. Now if I can just find out where that post went to.
For those that have made this mod, when you want the rear seats to fold up like they're supposed to, will the seats stay in the upright position, or will the upper portion always come down due to the mod?

Yes, this mod will not affect it's "normal" functions.

I don't have the stock JBL system. Why don't you do the mod and play around with the JBL subwoofer placement. But if you think about it, you could stick a plastic container back there so you would gain more space for storage than just the underseat would give you.

The seats work fine just theyre supposed to. My uppers only fold down if I pull them, other than that they stay up.
My input on the modification to get your rear seat backs to fold down..
First of all, I need to give credit to Nisbo for his awesome write-up of how to do this.. Great post Nisbo, and thanks so much for taking the time for the write-up and pics..
First of all, here is Nisbo's post- to use as a base-line: Double Cab folding seats Mod
Now, here is my "even easier" version:
DEFINITELY take out the back seat. I left the seat in the back of my truck and I ended up with metal shavings all over the interior (they WILL spread)... TAKE THE BACK SEAT OUT OF THE TRUCK.
I did NOT have to use the 6 point star bit to remove the "hooked brackets" from the seats. I found it easier to keep them attached to the seat (to hold them in place). I used a jig saw with a metal cutting blade to just cut them while they were attached to the seat.
I used the hose from my household vac to vacuum up the metal shavings from the back of the seat (and the rest of my truck- since I left the back seat in the truck..)
Be sure to switch up the cut from Nisbo's cut... I made my cut in the same angle as the bracket already had, and it is working fine for me. NO slack in the seatbacks.
In case you are confused with the "2.5cm inside cut" that is mentioned in the original post (like I was), just measure 2.5cm from the outside of the bracket, and make your cut at the same angle as the original angle was at. That's what I did, and it worked perfectly for me..
Was it worth it? YES!! I was able to put a ton of stuff under my seat while "moving into" my new Tundra (even with my JBL sub box), but I was also able to put a few "extra's" behind the rear seat back- like a blanket, a pillow, 2 large towels, 2 inflatable floating "lounge chairs" and a pump!
Do it, and enjoy your extra space.. This is a COOL mod..

Excalibur AL-2000 2-way pager alarm with remote start and dark as legally possible tint installed the very next day
305/55/20 Toyo A/T tires and black with machined lip ATX Vice wheels installed the day after that!
Aries 4" Deluxe Oval tube steps.
Sirius Satelite Radio installed using wleeb's awesome DIY.
I'd like to know, if it may somehow affect the safety of the passengers seating in the back during (knock on the wood) crash.
I'm not a crash test expert by any means, but I dont see how it would affect anything in a crash. The upper hooks are still grabbing the latches very securely. And you still need to unlock the lower seats with the bottom handle to get them to go up. Its not much different than the CM seats folding down.
