TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Your Thoughts on a Dash Mat", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
My wife thinks it might be great on a long highway trip we are planning.
Has anyone added a dash mat to their Tundra? Make, style, what type of mat material is best? Useful or not?

If you can take it off after the trip, go for it. But I thought those things were only used on old Dodge Rams and 1970's 2-tone F150s.

I put a dashmat in my 97 Tahoe and it served me very well. I considered a dash mat for my Tundra but havent gotten around to getting one yet. I will. I love them and they do protect the dash. Price is relatively reasonable as well, I think it was around 60 dollars. The choices of materials and colors are quite wide as well. I cut down a drawer liner from my tool box to put on the dash where the temp/sonar is to keep my cell phone from slipping and it works too. Good Luck.

Hmm. A dash mat may have been a good idea for my 99 dodge ram.
Although I don't like using ugly protective stuff on my things. What's the point in have a leather couch is you are just going to have the clear plastic cover on it 24 hours a day?
I bought a dash mat from the dealer was around 60 bucks. I bought it mostly to keep the sun off it since i park outside everyday and to prevent scratches on the "painted dash". It works really well and dosen't make your interior ugly as it color matches. Oh yeah the brand is dash topper i think.

Calm down Fred, nobody hijcaked your thread. You asked for opinions on "useful or not" and people were giving their opinions. The reason most didnt give you a make, style and material is because frankly dash mats went out about 10 years ago and nobody remembers.
Picked up the Black Velourmat, it was like $43.00 and matches the black dash of the truck, I also don't have to worry about what I use to clean the dash and wiping off the flat paint. It actually blends well with the truck and the lines. I have had 4 people see it and not realize it was even there, then when they realize they ask me for the website or phone #, they do look really good, I recommend the black because the lighter colors reflect too much light on the windshield.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT MAKING A NEW POST??? TRY SEARCH FIRST!!!!!
I have had a dash mat on the last 4 vehicles I have owned including a 95 Siverado that I had for 13 yrs. I like them. The one on my 06 Tundra fits well color matches and looks sharp with the Gator logo on it. I get mine from J C Whitney and use the Dashmat brand.
on dash mats...haven't seen those in a loooong time!
What's the point of dash mats in this day of time? As long as you take care of your current dash, then you shouldn't have a problem. Like in hot climates, condition it regularly so it won't crack. My newer model cars survive the hot summers of Texas, and never had a problem with dashes cracking or fading.
Good luck with your decision!

I had mine on for week. Ok, fit but still moved around with all the vent holes and layout. Fell off twice when I had to stop fast. In the garbage it went. Probably would of stayed better with velcro but I didn't want the adhesive side stuck to the dash with climate changes.

The passenger side airbag deploys out of the top of the dash on that side....Think about that dash mat flying towards your passenger during an accident
