TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "If you like clean exhaust tips", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
If you like the clean exhaust tips, it's best to polish them on a regular basis. I got my Borla installed like last June and I'm just now polishing them for the first time. I'm using Brasso that I got at Wally World. It's working well but I'm having trouble getting the most caked on parts. I think a little more elbow grease will help take it off. I used to kind of clean them when I would wash the truck but never really get all the stuff off, just the stuff that was recent. Now I've learned and hopefully I can pass along that wealth of information b/c of my stupidity
Speaking of polishes, anybody have any ideas of a better polish? Borla recommends two and I can't find any of them at Wally World and I don't want to buy anything online. It's not every day that I go to an auto parts store either but if there is a good one there I'll make a trip out there.

I've had my borla cat back on for a few months now and already need to polish the tips. Let me know if you find anything that works any better than what you mentioned.
Whew, I got them polished for the most part. Look almost as good as the day they were installed and they will once I get all that grease off. I'm never going to wait that long again to polish them lol. That was my problem. The rest of it looks incredible.
There's a video of the tips and a cold start.

I have also noticed the degradation gets exponentially worse if you neglect them longer. After a while the word "restore" becomes more appropriate. Of course we all get busy now and then, so when it gets really bad, I keep them wetted down with Windex for about ten minutes before I clean then. It soaks into the grime and helps loosen it before wiping.
Eagle One metal polish gets my vote.

I just now got back Advanced and I picked up some of that Eagle One. I've never used that wadding stuff before so it should be interesting lol.

Yeah, just picked up the same stuff you bought. It's interesting product to say the least. It made it luster nicely but it didn't get the remaining grease off. I'm sick of it so I'll wait until next time I wash my car to get it looking perfect. Unless you're actually looking at it from less than a foot away, you can't see it.

True I actually just finished up polishing my 4" Magnaflow tips and I took it to the carwash to get the extra residue off and they look sweet now. I also got a little carried away and polished the whole rear bumper, chrome nerfs, and the front bumper lol. She's sparkling to say the least.

Lol I took mine to the car wash too. Looks beautiful. Air dried it then sprayed on my Turtle Wax Ice Detailer. Did the wheels with it and the tips. I haven't done the bumpers. I'll use Windex and newspaper for that! (that's a good trick too btw, leaves a streak free shine as well man).

Ah I use Meguiar's Quick Detailer after every wash. Leaves an awesome shine. I also use Meguiar's rim detailer for the rims which works great also. I've never used newspaper and windex like you mentioned...I'll hafta try it out.

What do you do to keep the water marks off the black paint? The only way I dont get water marks is to hand dry it with a PVA drying skin for about 20 minutes and even then I still have water marks.
Yeah, some lady at a restaurant told us that lol. She said her bf or whatever works on cars and that's a secret of the trade I guess. I've used it before and while it may not shine like the Eagle1 did for your bumper, it will definitely look REAL sharp! Newspaper and Windex on the bumpers and windows are beautiful. I've used it on exhaust but it's harder to get there.
I've never used the Meguiars before, but I'll tell ya quick detailer is amazing money. It's saves so much time by chamoising your car. Let it airdry (that's a lot of fun) then just spend 5 minutes spraying on and wiping off. Done.
Post up some pics if you got 'em. I'm debating on whether or not I should do my tires (did 'em last week and still look good, but not shiny). I think tomorrow I'll go out to the field and take some pics of it clean before it rains on Tuesday lol.
