TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Lost master keys", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hi there, I'm a new tundra owner and member of Tundra Solutions. I recently purchased an '07 Tundra where the owner had lost the master keys but still had the grey Valet key. Before I finished the deal I called Sun Country Toyota here in Kamloops, BC and told the parts manager my situation. He took the VIN and told me that it was no problem and once I purchased the truck to come and see him and they would sell me the keys at $20 a piece and have them cut at a locksmith. Well, I bought the truck and upon handing the parts guy my key, he says 'wait a minute, this key has a chip. We can't make a new master from a valet key. You're going to have to purchase a new immobilizer ecu. Our program doesn't list your truck as having an immobilizer but I guess it does'.
So to make a long story short, they screwed up and now it's going to cost me a small fortune. Before I go and pay these people all this hard earned cash, isn't there a way they can 'flash' the ecu? I've read that in other posts but I'm not sure if it applies to the '07 Tundra or not. Any help would be much appreciated.

They didn't screw up, we were warned at buying time, don't lose an immobilizer key they cost big bucks. You should have got from the seller two black keys, one grey valet key and two remote key fobs.
You might have misunderstood about the ECU, like 93CRUISER posted, the new keys just need to be programmed.
Did you buy this from a private party? They somehow lost both immobilizer keys and both remote fobs?? You're looking at alot of expense to remedy this. Sounds shady to me. I hope you were at least compensated on the price you paid and the truck is legit.
im going install a remote start soon!!! can i give up the valet key or does it have to be a master!!! I have to give up one my installer said I know you don't really have too, but I don't want start things with him

They tried to install mine without the key, but it didnt work. They said it works 50% of the time on the Tundra. I gave them a valet key, which they cut off.

ok thx as long as the valet key worked!! btw what alarm did you get? and how do you like it. I want the clifford clifford 50.5X/backup battery / remote windows/ Just don't want to mess with the electrical to much, my installer said it wouldn't viod my warranty with the clifford/viper..... Idk if that madders to much after installing a sound system
Your dealer can do an immobiliser reset, but you'll need new keys and the dealer will have to go on to Toyota Canada's website to get vehicle specific reset codes but on earlier models you had to buy an ecu.
You shouldn't need an new ECU. We just did this for an 07 used 4Runner we had that only had the valet traded in. We just got two master keys cut at a locksmith from the valet and then they flashed the immobilizer system and reprogrammed it with the new keys. It did run about $400.
