Just heard on the local news here in SC that a 2008 Tundra was stolen from a dealer's lot. Somehow the thief did a key swap while test driving and then later came back and drove the truck away unnoticed.

It's funny what makes the news, according to what area you live in. I live in the suburbs of Houston, and a stolen Tundra would never make the news...LOL...gotta get in the murders first, right?
Well, at least the thief has taste!

So, I've wondered, what would it take to steal a Tundra off the street or from a parking garage? It seems that the ignition can't be started without the correct key. So, how do Tundras get stolen? By hauling them away? Is there any point in using The Club or similar device?

Buy your truck outside of the Gulf States Toyota monopoly if you don't want to compromise.
I had the microTrak GPS device installed on my truck (was free with my extended warranty), so if they take my truck, the thief is screwed. Unless they strip it before the police catch up to them...LOL

Although you don't know the exact circumstances any more than the rest of us, why don't you do them a favor, give them a call and maybe share some of your superior brain-power with them.
Side note: First you need to know it's called a sales staff, not a seals staff.
There was a "ring" busted locally several years back that did the exact same thing. They usually worked in pairs and one of the "culprits" would distract the salesman while the other made the switcharoo.
The kicker to the story was that the criminals were....how to put this delicately....practitioners of an "alternate lifestyle" and were rather "flamboyant" in their demeanor which the story said was part of the distraction.
As I recall, it was a VERY profitable "enterprise" while it lasted.
