I have one horn. Wired it to work in tandem with both the stock horns. What I did was use the power from the stock horn, driver's side, to be the switched power on the relay. The output to the stebel and driver's side horn comes out of the relay. The relay power comes directly from the battery, via 20A fuse. Stebel is independantly grounded and the relay has a good ground as well. My one concern is that I may have gone a little light on the wire to the stebel. I believe I used 20 guage wire. Will double check. I can snap some pics later to better illustrate what I've just explained, a pic is worth a 1000 words eh.

Thanks everyone for your help!!

20 gauge wire is WAY too small for the current draw of the horn. that's getting into the fire hazard range. double check that, cause i'd hate to see someone burn something up from improper wiring.

Brow,
Do you notice the dimming headlights when you are at idle, or while driving at elevated RPMs?

The reason I ask is that the window rollup button dims the lights at idle, but not at higher engine speeds.

at idle, stock alternators barely put out enough current to keep the vehicles stock electronics/engine running. peak output is usually between 1,500 and 2k RPMs. high output aftermarket alternators are even worse for idle output. an easy fix for that is to reduce the pully size on the alternator to get it spinning a little faster at idle. our engines can certainly handle the minor added load.

Question Re: New Stebel 300 Hz Truck Horn

OK been reading this thread and ordered the Stebel.
I have seen every mounting possible (almost) of the horns...
I just bought some 12 Ga wire and an inline fuse socket...now how do you connect the 12 Ga. wire to the battery ???
and what voltage 20 Amp fuse ? (this I was asked by my local ratshack rep)
So far the pics I've seen cleverly show everything but....

BTW great group of various backgrounds make this site one of the most informative

what kind of fuse socket did you get? can you post a link to rat shack's product listing?

i used a ring terminal to connect the main 12 gauge wire to the battery. i used the same size ring terminals for the ground (i think).

What did you use for your fuse holder? I was under the impression that all this hardware came with the horn... guess not

Looks like I get to go dig around at the random parts store

What did you use for a fuse holder? Are you considering changing? (I ask because of your comment above)

Got mine installed. I replaced the drivers side horn, so I am running the Stebel and the high tone stock horn together. I LOVE the sound. I figure that I'll never get cut off by the same car twice!

Between the horn install and the Corsa exhaust install (which of course came after a few laps around the neighborhood with no muffler!), the neighbors must really love me now.

this is the fuse holder that i got, except mine has larger wires going to it:

pretty much any automotive fuse holder that is rated for at least 20 amps will work fine. the reason i asked the other guy was because the cylinder glass fuses are usually the ones that the ratshack guys ask what voltage you need, and i prefer to not use them in automotive applications, unless its for low amperage.

try the stebel with just the stock low horn or both. i'm trying to decide if i like it with just the low, or both the high and low best. but i like it with just the low better than just the high.

For me it's the easy answer to ridding myself of the roody-poo stock horn tone. My Subaru has a more commanding honk to it, and that just ain't right

My install:

I like this location best, found it on this website of course. Still need to change horn wiring to 12 or 16 guage.

Close up side view:

Relay location, inside wall near battery. Used an existing hole:

Proof it's a work truck.... (yuck poor thing)
