TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Paint Scratches....", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
IMO, our paint is WAY too thin. If you do try to buff that out, you'll have almost nothing left. Unfortunately, you have already taken posession. If you can talk them into painting the entire truck, you may wind up with a better paintjob than if they originally delivered it with no damage.....

No Way they should repaint it or give you another truck upon delivery of my truck i found run spots in the paint and demanded a repaint but they told me i can either have it repainted or they can try and wet sand it and buff it out i didn't have time to leave it for 2 weeks for them to paint it over so i jus had them buff it i still see there tho
I would have it repainted, not the base coat, all they do is sand it and spray two coats of clear, no need to match paint, a quality body shop would put three coats of clear and buff it smooth, it would look better than original, and would be more durable.
Just make sure they remove the trim first and replace it with new trim if needed, you don't want it masked off, if you decide to debadge later it would look like hell, in fact just have them order the new badges and don't put them on till its fully cured, or you may just leave them off.
Like its been said, if buffed, the next time you will not have sufficient clear when you scratch it, then you will be the one holding the bill.
Has Anyone Had Any Experience With Removing Paint / Clearcoat Scratches? The Tranport Co. That Delivered My Truck Cut Corners On The Right Turns And Ran It Past Some Tree Branches. Therefore My First Look At My New Truck Was Not Great To Say The Least. I Buffed It With Some Good Carnuba Wax And Got About 50% Of It Out... Their Insurance Co. Is Supposedly Paying For The Damage... So The Toyota Dealer Is Going To Try To Polish / Compound It Out Without Painting? Do I Dare Let The Local Toyota Paint Shop Do This? Thanks...
Ouch...I feel for you...are these pics before or after you buffed out 50%?
Not sure if this will help you but it is how Toyota says paint scratches should be removed. Please note comment about adding clear coat paint after using sandpaper to remove scratches.
thanks frank... i hope My toyota paint shop has this... at least I now know what Toyota recommends...

Jache, bought the truck out of his area, from some out of state dealer.
He accepted the truck and paid them (pictures or just trusted them).
Now instead of picking the truck up himself, he had a trucking company transport it to him.
The trucking company damaged HIS vehicle.
This is not Toyota's or the selling dealer's fault, it's the trucking company's.
It is his truck, has been since it was loaded on the truck, he has to accept it.
He has to fight the trucking company to fix their eff up.
Now he could fight to have them replace the brand new truck, but I doubt it will happen.
Best he can hope for is a brand new paint job by a painter of his choosing.
He'll end up with better paint then what came from the factory.
Jacahe, please correct me if I'm wrong...

I don't care what any dealer says this truck can't be buffed, it needs paint on whole truck. You want a factory rep to see truck before they even try to buff. If painted as said before you will have a much better job than factory.

The basics help people understand they didn't sell you the truck all scratched up...
I hope it all works it's self out for ya.

I would bring it back and demand a new truck, I am very picky about mine and would never be able to live with that. Unless you can't wait, go for another new one,
Looking at those scratches I would be very surprised if anybody can fix them without paint work, and never I mean never let them paint your brand new truck. That's my 2 cents.
