Not trying to be argumentitive, but isnt a roots blower a positive displacement supercharger (as opposed to a paxton/vortec style)?? (I am quite sure that it is). And, secondly, I KNOW that a supercharger excels in the low end torque capablitity on gas engines as opposed to turbochargers, so on that you are wrong. A roots/whipple supercharger is where its at for gas engined tow vehicles, especially at altitude. Worry about driveline issues like ujoints, transmissions, and rearends (which I am thinking Toyota went overkill on on purpose!)

From that underhood picture, I'm guessing it's a twin screw blower....similar in operation to a Roots.....more efficent but still both positive displacement for that off idle torque you were correct about...

I've been reading this with great interest, and learning along the way. So, the consensus is that the TRD sc is just what the everyday truck owner would benefit from - near off-idle power all through the powerband. I wonder what it will sound like - will there be a loud whine?

- on a side note: we will be doing some body repairs on an SRT-10 next week. I looked under the hood on that thing and it was all business. Will a SC Tundra have a chance lining up against one of these? I know it's speculation at this time, but I'm sure some of you performance guys out there have an idea. power/wt. ratios and such

An RCSB Tundra is already a match for a quad cab SRT-10, so with a supercharger on the Tundra it would be no contest against any variant of the SRT-10.

Howstuffworks "Supercharger Advantages"

"Roots and twin-screw superchargers, for example, provide more power at lower RPM. Centrifugal superchargers, which become more efficient as the impeller spins faster, provide more power at higher RPM."

Reading this post is really pushing pe over the fence on buying a gen 2. I really miss the s/c whine from my 99 Taco. Man there are gonna be some crazy fast Tundras out there.

Right on.

Toyota Racing Development

According to that site, TRD is using an Eaton Roots blower......not quite as efficient as a twin screw set up. (Whipple)

i called my dealership , there is none available across the whole united state's yet.
they expect them MAYBE by the summer. just in time for the 2009's.
i am on the list to be called when the 1st 1 come's in to my dealership.

i suggest you get with the sales manager next trip to your dealership and ask them to start a list , they will hopefully do this to.

this way your ahead of the game.

but there is going to be a huge market up, since the demand is so high.
i'd bet they will go for way over list. possible 5'g or ,more.

might be better off buying directly from trd and install yourself , if you have the know how.

well over due for sure. this will sell the 5.7 's now for sure.
even if the gas price's go through the roof.

If pricing follows what happened with the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 charger, it'll be way below MSRP online (as usual). I have a waiting list of over 15 people thus far (the list has been up for about 6 months now) and this is the first piece of news to forward out. The previous e-mail included speculation only

I already emailed this thread to another Tundra forum site and also to my dealer fleet/internet sales. I told him to contact TRD and find out if they can come to Escondido Toyota and have a demo there. Tundra or Sequoia or both will be greatly appreciated. And I'll post it here if they ever come up with a demo date.

Did anyone hear anything about a 4.7 and/or Gen 1 application, specifically for the VVTi case?

We're coordinating a performance clinic event (Truck based). Depending on the interest we get, we may chance the format that was originally intended. The purpose of our meeting had just to touch on the supercharger status and mainly focused on other items.

It just happened to become the hot topic after the fact

About a group buy, maybe a better price available, worth the try.
