TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Truck Tent for Tundra", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Anyone know of any manufacturers who have camping tents designed for our newer model Tundras? All the stuff I can find is either designed for domestic trucks or the older model Tundra and T100.
You mean the tent that goes in the bed of the Tundra and extends outwards form there? Toyota does make them for the newer Tundras. Not sure though about external distributors who make them however.

Sanosuke!
Yes, the tent that fits over the bed...I was unaware of the Toyota offering. I'll check that out.
been wondering about this myself, and I'm also looking for an air mattress to fit a CM. Only tent I've seen is the Sportz III on ebay for around $200. If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it!
For $200 you could get a really good regular tent that sleeps 10 people and is 14'x10' like a friggin living room. Why you want a truck bed tent that is only say 6.5'x5'?
Here's two examples of awesome tents you could get for under $200:
or you can get some nice 4 person tents if you dont need the capacity.
Truck tents suck b/c if you have gear in the bed you will have to remove it. Id go with a regular tent. Truck tents look cool but it would definitely become a hassle.
I have a 3 bedroom tent that my mom got for like 50bucks (on sale. Regular price was at least 130+) its huge easy to set up and doesnt weight too much. I went to big bend with a 7 friends and we fit pretty comfortably.
Go to academy and REI and check out their selection in person. Academy also has models etc...
Check out target, walmart and the Campmor has some nice tents.
200 bucks for a truck tent isnt worth it IMO.

Good point, but there is something to be said for being up off the ground when camping for extended periods. Now that I have the Tundra CM, all of my dry goods can go into the back seat and I can just use the tent for sleeping and not sleeping/storage...Typically, there would only be one female at a time sharing the tent with me, so the larger tent is not all that important to me. I'll definitely consider all the pro's and con's between the truck tent and traditional tent before I make a purchase.
One good thing about sleeping in the truck tent is having the side walls of the bed as a sound/early morning sun blocker.
also CM Bed is 5.5ft=66inches and the website for the above is showing 72-78inches or something. it says 72-78inch bed. I wonder if it would still be ok if the tailgate is down though.
Ive seen a DC with one on at the dealership and thought it looked awesome. that truck also had a hitch gas grill. i was interested in the hitch gas grill but it was too expensive.

Truck tent would be nice if you customize it to attach around the rear window of the Tundra. Just put the window down and you have A/C, stereo and power outlet. Of course for the A/C you would need to start the truck, but you could cool the tent down a little in 5 minutes or so.
I was thinking that softtopper/canback thing would be the ideal quick-up tent for pickup camping. They look kinda gooney when up, but I figure it'd stay collapsed or removed most of the time, and would be instant-up if you arrived at a campsite late at night.
I haven't priced 'em out yet though, so I can't say if they'd even be comparable to a truck bed tent.

FTW! this is the great idea. this could easily be done with some velcro.
Anyone find a truck tent for a CM yet? Cant believe I cant find one made exactly for the CM. One with a zipper where the trucks rear window is would be soooo perfect for AC/heat, music, and DC power as someone mentioned already.

I bought one of the Sportz tents for an SUV/van. I also have a softtopper
camper top that works really well and the two provided enough room for
my wife and I and our two boys and dogs. -Thom
