TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Hard to Close Doors...Airtight Tundra", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Neither man nor machine is perfect and with all inclusion is myself and my Tundra CREW MAX's rear doors. Often times it takes two tries or more to close them. This is especially true for people not used to the truck. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

Same here, I just chalked it up to being new with good seals. The wife does not want to slam my door when getting out and hates the fact that she has to put some effort into closing it..

Ya., mines a pain in the a$$. Especially the drivers side rear door. Always gotta shut it twice. The passenger side is'nt near as bad. Could probably have it adjusted to work better.

My carpooling buddy ALWAYS has to re-close the door, and I tell him to "close it like you've got a pair!"

Use silicone grease on the rubber door seals..like NAPA's "Sylglide" or Motorcraft silicone grease sold at Ford dealers. Ford also has a good Motorcraft door lock clylinder lubricant.
I have that issue but if a window or door is open then i don't....maybe just a good seal on the door or the pressure in the cab? I truly don't know but thought I would suggest a few things and my experience.
It used to happen to me occasionally also. It rarely happens now since I applied dynamat on the outer and inner panels of the doors (more for sound quality and dampening ) probably because the doors are heavier now or either that I got used to closing the doors harder. The doors also closes with a more solid thud sound.
My wife can't close the doors the first time either. She has an impala with heavy a** doors so she can close them with little effort which in turn has to do the double take with my truck. Every time she does it I tell her shes going to wear out the door mechanisms on that side of the truck. Some times just a look does it and all she can say is "don't even start with the door thing again". Thats some funny s**t rigth there!!!

That is because Toyota and other manufactures make their cabin more tight. Less air leaks less nosie. I've heard that BMW makes their windows crack open when you open the door so when you close it it's easier. It lets that air pressure out.
It normally happens to me when I already have my hands full. I did discover however that a simple lean against it will finish the close. I've even done it with my head.
There have already been a couple of comments about opened/cracked windows, and that is indeed what it is. Ask a Toyota dealer tech about it, and they'll tell you -- the doors require a little shove for the same reason that the cabin is so incredibly quiet -- great seals.
The other thing I've noticed is that the doors, esp the front doors, open so smoothly that at first you think you'd neglected to actually close them fully.
I continue to be impressed by the design and construction quality of these beasts. Have a very fine Acura TL-S that's been sitting lonely in the garage for the past 3 months...cannot seem to leave the Tundra in the driveway.
