This is a discussion thread titled "Proforce Exhaust Installed!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
The long-awaited day has arrived - the Proforce exhaust is ON! This kit was well worth the wait
UPS delivered the box yesterday - packed extremely well and arrived unharmed despite their best efforts. The welds and overall quality of this kit is much better than the Magnaflow. I snapped a couple pictures so you can see for yourself.
Took her over to Meineke today for the install. The minute I drove off after picking her up, I could tell the difference - the Proforce is exactly what I wanted to replace the droning Magnaflow!
The Proforce has a very slight rumble at idle - it's not much louder than stock. It's very neighbor friendly under normal driving conditions too. However, at WOT, it's nearly as loud and throaty as the Magnaflow! I was afraid that the Proforce might be too quiet under load, and I was happily surprised. It's an incredible blend of both attributes.
The key difference in the Proforce can be heard between 1,500 and 2,000 RPMs. When declerating with the Magnaflow, when the RPMs would drop to this level, the drone was unbearable, like "BWAHBWAHBWAHBWAHBWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHpopsnortsnort snortpop".
With the Proforce, when you're slowing down and the RPMs drop, it's half as noisy and the tone is more sophisticated and defined. Instead of snapping and popping, this kit just decreases in sound and volume, like "bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
Do you like my scientific ways of trying to describe sound through text?! heh. I will be driving a bit this weekend to further break it in and test her out on the highway too. I did get her up to 65 mph for about five straight miles, and I did not sense any drone at all. Maybe my standards are lower after having the Magna-drone installed for months, but I am VERY pleased with the Proforce so far.
The only thing I'm still getting accustomed to is the tip location. When it comes to trucks, I've never been a dual tip fan. I always do a single or dual side exit. Still, I really liked the tip design on the Proforce and I also like how the tips "tie-in" around the hitch and lowest part of the bumper. Makes it look more intentional than just exiting on the most outward parts of the bumper. I'm sure I will get used to it!
I tried to take some in-cabin video with my cell phone, but it picked up some strange crackely noises and background sound. I wanted to demonstrate how unobtrusive this kit is for an aftermarket exhaust, but the clips aren't very good. Hopefully the pictures will suffice until I can figure out how to snag some better sound.
Just hooked some pretty good speakers to my laptop. Played the Flowmaster, Borla and Proforce sound clips. My Son (and I think I agree), says we HAVE to go Proforce....

Love the pops and snorts I get from my Magnaflow...Thats how a muscle truck should sound IMO.

Why did you take it to a muffler shop? Don't they just "bolt on" ?
Yes, this is a 100% bolt-on installation.
However, I typically have my exhausts welded so I have a good relationship with the local Meineke. This weekend we have a bunch of projects going on, so it was either drop $100 to pay someone to bolt it up in an hour using a lift, or not have it done this weekend, go to Texas next weekend for six days, and then maybe get a chance the following weekend to install it. As you can see, I weighed my options and chose to pay to get ti done quickly. In the meantime, we installed a Roush rear spoiler on my convertible. Drilling holes in the quarter panel of a new car takes cajones, let me tell you!
To answer the second question, I don't judge shops based on the brand name. Each Meineke is a FRANCHISE. This guy is extremely detail-oriented and does great welding. What do I care if there is a national logo attached to his high quality of work?
Oops, it WOULD help if I told people where they can get one, eh? I got mine off the Proforce website: http://www.proforcemotorsports.com/ The kit is $699.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I love the red rear swaybar. Just a bit of red poking out from the rear

I used to like it, but I spend a lot of time around 2k RPMs taking back roads to work, and I wanted something more subtle. I wouldn't say there is a particular sound type associated to pickup trucks - although some may tell you it's the sound of straight pipes on a Dodge

Yea...Well I guess this is why they make different exhaust setups for different tastes...That Proforce looks really nice btw. Get some soundclips up! Your text sounds don't work for me.
