TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "tow hitch?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Doing a search I pull up Class V ball mounts and they are 2 1/2" sqaure. The Tundra is 2 1/16" square. My dealer called and got the ball mount in, but it has only a 1" drop. I need a 4" drop. What's up Toyota?! Can anyone post up a link to an aftermarket ball mount (4" drop) which will fit in the Tundra's receiver? Now it's a Class IV. I guess that would make sense.
Tundra has a class IV - says so right on it. And it is not standard either. If your truck does not come with it then you also have to get an optional wire package to have installed from the front to the back to run a 7 pin connector if you want all functions - other wise it is just a 4 UNLESS you got the towing package option on your vehice...

Why bother posting a link if you don't read the posts? Just go to a U-haul store or a trailer store like Magnum trailers and buy one with the drop you need. Chances are that it will still rattle.
I am reading the posts and that is part of the problem. I have guys posting up Class V and then Class IV, Dodge ball mount... I do appreciate everyone's input, but to me it's pretty simple: for a near $40k truck I am not going to put tape, or weld, or use a vise, etc. I want to find the correct ball mount to go in the receiver, and don't want to deal with a rattle. That is unacceptable IMO.

are you kidding me...is this your first time with a hitch...exactly how tight would you like it to fit...it is designed to have some play otherwise you will never get it out...just take it out when your not using it and with a load the rattle is not really there...

Mike, can you post a picture of yours? I now see how this works.
I'll take a picture tonight and post it. It really works great. I've tried several different types over the years, and so far this one seems to be the real deal.

Sounds like you should have spent $55K on a new Sequoia then.
Go to the dealer buy one of their hitches since that is the answer you are looking for.
I would, but they got the ball mount in and it only has a 1" drop. From what I was told it's rated at 11K and does fit in the receiver better. I can't use it as I need a 4" drop.
All my trucks have always rattled with the receivers in them. But i use Reese and not the factory hitches since they cost 1/3rd as much. But i wouldn't pay $40K for truck either when a $26K truck will work just fine...LOL

Pretty close It's a duck boat and it is quite low to the ground. Better for getting the boat off in shallow water. Actually I need the drop to flip over and gain height.
Did you ever solve your hitch rattle? The hitch stabilizer looks like it would work, but I'm not crazy about the appearance. A friend suggested that I wedge some industrial rubber behind the hitch and force the pin in, but there is no backing to the receiver.
Let me know if you solved.
