Yes, you are right, the 2005s started using timing chains in the V6's.
but, in my defense, Cooter asked specifically about the 2000 Tundra, both available engines for the 2000 Tundra use timing belts.

SORRY THOUGH WE WAS ONLY TALKING ABOUT 07 AND UP TUNDRAS HERE. YEAH YOU ARE RIGHT THE OLD 3.4s ARE BELTS
Just wondering how many miles you have on yours with the ticking/sewing machine/diesel sounds our engines make?. Also did your ticking turn into a more serious problem?
Mine was sound free for the first 100 miles and its gotten progressively worse as the miles add up (900 now). Kindof sounds like "really" loud injectors or its in the heads. Did it get any better over time? Oil change help?
I know that this subject has been covered before, but wanted to get some mileage date from those with it.
Thanks!
There was a post about this on Tundra headquarters where someone had some info from an insider at Toyota.
Apparently Toyota knew these Engines were loud after break in and neglected to address the issue. There is some kind of lubrication they use while building the engines and after it wears off after a couple hundred miles the 5.7 sounds like a diesel.
Oil change will not help.
I am just wondering if your Tundra blows out smoke when you start your engine even in the middle of the day. what i mean is , this is not the first time you start it in the morning.
I feel that if it keeps on doing that it will start burning oil.
My tundra has only 26000 miles in it.
Anybody who might know what that is please let me know and it will be appreciated.
Thank you and God Bless

I wouldn't be so sure about that. That site has just as much credibility as this site.
Why else would the engine sound like a diesel? Oh I know, Toyota wanted it to sound like that right?

There is no credibility without documentation.
You must have missed this before...

Not to say they didn't want it like to sound like that. More like the cost in which it would take to sound deaden a truck would come right out of our pocket books at time of purchase.
They do use assembly grease when building the engine. It's used on certain parts and it wears off very quickly, like before it hits dealer lots.
