Default Nav Video Mod + NAV Speed Pulse Generator = Video Twitch

So...
I completed the video input mod for the navigation unit and it works great. I installed two switches inside my center console to turn on the backup camera while driving forward and also to switch between video sources. Recently, I also recently acquired one of wileetundra’s speed pulse generators and all worked great until I turned on the video source and realized that every time that the pulse generator sent a pulse to the nav unit the video would twitch (or produce static) . It did not matter whether the switch I had wired for the pulse generator was switched to factory or to pulse. Nor did matter whether the video was on aux or backup it still picked up the static in the video. As of now I have completely cut the power to the pulse generator and the static went away. I have tried everything I can think of and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience… thanks in advance

-Rob

Try some different configurations for the grounding wires. I initially had some video problems because I didn't ground the video feed properly. I have never felt that the SPG was interfering with my video, though. They shouldn't be part of the same circuit.

Also, are you using coaxial cable for the video signal? (I'll be you're not ). If not, then you are asking for video interference because video is a very low voltage signal. Coaxial cable negates the effect of magnetic fields on this video signal that are generated by current going through other wires such as generated by the SPG which you probably have running right alongside your video signal going to the switch in the console. It doesn't have to be any kind of thick coaxial cable. Most audio patch cable is coaxial like cable with RCA plugs.

Hi, I am new to looking at this forum. I want to use my Ipod as a video source and use the nav screen to watch video. Please give me the links if available. Would anyone out there be interested in building me a device to do this? Thanks in advance

There are a couple of ways of doing it I have done both.

My current method is by using a Vais Tech SL2Vi which mimics the RES (Rear entertainment system) downfall is you can't do video in motion without lots of work (See my thread here) Video In Motion

The other option is to just use a AV output cable from the ipod or get a video cradle if you are using something like a Dice electronics interface to play your ipod and then use a switch to go between backup camera and ipod inputs and another switch to put power to the reverse line of the head unit. (you could use the same switch if you don't need to use your camera while moving.

Thanks Pete. I was curious if you had a picture or a link that would show where the video input to back up camera is. I will try your suggestion with the switch once i know what the camera cable looks like. Thanks again.
