Once you get used to navigating around TS finding stuff gets easier.
You might also want to check out the Nav install thread and common signal lines thread.
More specifically, to make it work with the factory NAV (from my understanding, since I don't have the NAV), you need to take a look at the threads on installing the NAV system and common signal lines to get an understanding on 1) how to tear into your dash to get to the back of the NAV unit, and 2) to help determine which wire, on which harness, in the back of your NAV unit is the REVERSE signal wire. That signal wire is the one you'll be splicing into for the switch, since it is that signal that tells your NAV unit to go to "back-up view". The rest should follow pedro's (and other's) instructions regarding the rest of the wiring. Hope that helps.

So, having used the cheapo VR wireless camera, the bullet one like you have and an additional rv camera, I can say that the best performer is the Toyota OEM camera.

Do you remember the part $ of the OEM camera/handle?
thanks

From Sparks Toyota. I think this is the best performing camera of any that I have used.

thanks Tom. Maybe I can sell my camera and handle for 50$ on ebay to help offset the cost of this. by the way does the handle come with the camera at sparks?
thanks
edit: the oem camera operates on 6v correct?

Re: DIY: OEM Backup Camera Install With Auto Anytime Camera
Anyone know what the pinout connections are at the tailgate connector (under the truck)? Want to hook up my relay system to switch beteen the trailer and truck camera, but don't know which wires in the connector are for camera power and camera signal.
Re: DIY: OEM Backup Camera Install With Auto Anytime Camera
OK, here's how I did mine:
I purchased the nav system with tailgate cam when I got the truck, so the first camera and the screen were already done. I added a camera to the back of my 20' enclosed trailer for backing up and changing lanes.
Camera
Purchased a camera and trailer wiring harness from interceptinc on ebay. This included:
night vision camera with audio
long multipin cable to go from the back of the trailer to the tongue
a trailer-side connector
a spiral cable
a vehicle side connector
a long cable to go from the bumper to the cab
breakout cables to bring audio and video onto RCA connectors and power onto a barrel connector. I cut all of these connectors off.
Relay I built a board with multiple relays because I wanted to switch audio (to the aux jack) and video. I used 12v DPDT relays so as to switch video+ and video-. You probably only need to switch video+.
I wanted the relay to energize and make the switch as soon as the trailer was connected. Luckily, the wiring package from interceptinc had 2 unused pins and wires between the truck and trailer. I applied 12v to one of them on the truck side, and shorted the pins together on the trailer side. Thus, when the trailer is connected, it's like flipping a switch and sending 12v back to the truck on the second pin. I run this 12v line up to the cab where it energizes the relay(s).
Behind the nav unit, I snipped the Video + and - wires (red and gray on K7, thanks to this post by PS-Rage), so the relay simply switches from one set of camera video signals to the other.
I did this in the cab because the board I built, as I mentioned, switches video and audio, and also contains wilee's speed pulse generator circuit. You could just as easily put the relay back in the bumper area to keep it simple.

Re: DIY: OEM Backup Camera Install With Auto Anytime Camera
Excellent input. I have the exact same setup on my trailer (bought from the same guy). I put a relay in a box and mounted it next to the camera connection where it comes out of the tailgate. I did not want the camera to auto switch over to the trailer cam because I like to use the truck rear view camera while driving to check out the status of the weight distribution hitch. Right now, I just have a pushbutton switch on the box, but I plan to run a switch to the cab and mount it in one of the unused blanks.
The wiring of the OEM camera connector at the tailgate was annoted here:

Embarrassing downfall of my installation - the connector is still dangling. AutoZone sells an assortment of mounting flanges for trailer connectors, one of which should work. I just haven't gotten around to it.
I tuck mine up on top of the factory brake/lights connector when not in use.

On my 2005, I had the same camera setup on my 2005. I used a bracket from Advaced Auto, but it was too flimsy.
Anyone know the part # for the Toyota OEM 7 pin bracket?
About 2/3 way down. It's a box that straps onto the round tube cross bar. That should be a lot better than the standard universal one which just bends when you plug and unplug.
Re: DIY: OEM Backup Camera Install With Auto Anytime Camera
Nice find, but do you think the round bar in our hitch is a little too hidden behind the bumper for that to work? As I recall, the tube bends 'up' pretty quickly just outboard of the trailer 7pin with not much room to mount anything?

Hadn't looked at it from an access from behind point of view. I was laying under the truck installing the relay for the trailer cam when I thought it was a good idea. Now, not so much. Cost me $9. I might call Sparks and see if they can sell me just the OEM 7 pin bracket and add a second to the right side of the hitch.
Re: DIY: OEM Backup Camera Install With Auto Anytime Camera
I installed this camera last Saturday and it's one of the best thing I added on my truck! Greatly recommended. Btw, I bought mine for $300 brand new which is a great deal as well.
