So I just looked at the SOS kit and I could have sworn that it was a flip kit with new leaf springs... If the TRD kit REALLY is the SOS kit, might look at it.

Gotcha... I wonder how much play is left in the alignment after all that... seems that without changing spindles it would need a lot of adjustment...

I was watching a video of the install on the SOS kit for shiz and giggles and noticed that you have to apoxy the spring perch on... anyone know if this is needed on the TRD kit or is the shock assembled for the front...

The SOS re-use the stock spring, so it need the new spring perch.
The TRD use a new set of spring, so it doesm't need the spring perch.
The SOS kit (aka TundraRacing.com) was the same kit TRD used to drop some of their early Tundras before they had their own kit. It costs about half as much as the TRD setup, and it doesn't hurt the ride. Read the summary at the end of this article for a discount:
As for the setup, you move the rear leafs from above the axle to just below, and as Someone said (good moniker btw), there's a new spring perch on the front coil assembly.

TRD never used that kit some dealers did in order to offer customers what they wanted a lowering kit. If you want something that lowers and makes the truck handle better go TRD. Also If something happens to the truck because of the kit I wanna see them take care of the problem.
Finally got all TRD parts in and had Lithia Toyota of Redding CA install the TRD lowering kit. I think the truck looks great and the ride is very nice. I picked the truck up at 6:30 tonight and noticed on the short ride home there was a slight vibration at slow speed.
I went back out for a test drive and noticed that at between 20 and 30 miles an hour with very slight throttle pressure there is a tight vibration that feels like it is in the driveline. I will be calling Lithia in the morning to inform them of this vibration.
Has anyone else that has installed TRD lowering kit on a 07 Tundra experienced this vibration?

Tom at Tundra Racing told me that he sold three of his kits to Toyota's main California office back in March or April 07 so they could quickly drop three trucks. According to Tom, the TRD parts weren't ready yet and his kit was one of the only kits on the market at the time.
I questioned Tom when he told me this and asked him if it was Toyota or perhaps a Toyota dealer, but Tom double-checked his invoice while I was on the phone with him and told me it was "Toyota Motor Sales USA" in California. He then told me that they called him and told him his drop kit was on YouTube (Tom spelled in UTube on his website ).
I think you might be right about buying the TRD kit for better handling, but I don't know how much better it could be. All I can tell you is I've dropped a few cars and trucks in my time and the TundraRacing kit rode as nice as (or nicer) than any kit I've used before (including a few TRD kits on Tacos, xB's, and tC's). If you're building a race truck, ride isn't that important, but if you're building a daily driver, I wouldn't hesitate to install the SOS TundraRacing kit. It's very high quality and it's easier to put on than the TRD kit.
As for your comment about Tundra Racing (aka SOS) not standing behind their kit, do you have an example? We recommended the kit on TundraHeadquarters - I want to make sure we didn't recommend someone with a bad reputation. Any light you can shed would be appreciated .
The only think I DO NOT like about the SOS kit is the fact that you have to epoxy the spring perch. Not very safe IMO if something doesn't bond right or deteriorates over time.

I wasn't saying they wouldn't stand behind there product but which do you think would be easier to get something fixed by? That is why alot of companies choose certain products to sell because of insurance liabilities. I'm sure that the Tundra Racing kit is a good kit to lower the vehicle, I don't doubt that TRD used a couple of those kits to lower the concept TRD Tundra all i was saying is that they are two completly different kits that cant be compared to each other.

Do you know if they adjusted the carrier bearing? This is a must but no instructions or kits come with recommending this. I didnt do it to mine when i lowered it just too see if i got the vibration, and it did. Crawled up under it, adjusted carrier bearing, drove it again and vibration was gone. I have heard lots of guys having the vibration, not doing anything about it and ruining their driveshafts over time.
P.S. i dont have the TRD kit, but lowering is lowering when driveshaft is involved

I am not sure if they adjusted the carrier bearing or not. Although I got up under the truck and loosened the carrier bearing and it slid slightly to rear own its own maybe a 1/4 inch and I then tightened back up. The vibration is still there. Do you know what the process is to adjust the carrier? I spoke to Lithia this morning and I am scheduled to drop the truck off in the morning, but the vibration is so slight I am not sure how responsive Lithia will be.
