Wow, that is crazy. I couldnt see paying tax on two expensive trucks so close together, and that is not taking in to account what was lost in depreciation on the 08.
Good luck with the truck, not trying to bring down the party. Your front bumper wont rust either!
I have no idea what the difference in the cost of the truck he purchased and the amount that they gave him for his trade was but only the difference would be taxed. Say he paid 30k for the new truck and they gave him 28k for his he would only pay tax (prob. 6%) on the 2k difference. Thats the way it works here in Florida anyway. I would think the hit came from the depreciation on the 08 he traded.
yes, tax is paid on the difference only, and on the rebate too, as it is like a down payment.
I'm a poor man and if I were loosing (too) much money I would never do it, especialy since the last 6 months were really bad for me financially. I'd keep my CM and be frustrated, maybe even started spending any money I could save on the mods, and still be frustrated that it's not what I want.
what I learned, is that if you're spending so much money you'd better get something that you really like otherwise you'll be unhappy for years or end up trading and loosing the money.
fortunately for me, the numbers were good enough and fully justified the trade. let's just say that money wise, it is as if I bought that truck from the begining. granted I have 07 model now, but it's new truck and has 3500 fewer miles than was on my 08 CM.
OK im calling bravo sierra on your pics. some of your pics are of a 4x4 and some are of a 4x2. in some pics its parked next to a bunch of cars (a dealers lot maybe) and some pics show the 4x4 switch and some show the dumb coin holder. "Lucy you have some splainin do to".

I'm thinking that he just accidentally put in some exterior/interior shots of a similar vehicle he was looking at at the dealership.
However, I would like to know the financial details of the deal before I give it the thumbs up as a nice move. I don't mean monthly payments, by the way. Total trade-in and purchase price including interest rates. I don't think you can sell a vehicle that has a few thousand miles on it without taking at least a $4K hit on it.
I think it's pretty unusual to do this since you admit that the past six months have been financially difficult. Buying two brand new trucks doesn't strike me as a rational thing to do during that time. Maybe there is a little cause-and-effect here perhaps? Maybe if you stopped buying and re-buying everything you wanted regardless of finances, things wouldn't be so difficult. Just a suggestion.

Buy your truck outside of the Gulf States Toyota monopoly if you don't want to compromise.
I assume it was for financial reasons on this particular swap right?
I assume most people would consider the CrewMax an upgrade over the DC? Unless your essential criteria is solely based on the Bed size.
Whats it like going from the CM to the DC though? Does it feel ALOT smaller on the inside? Not having that huge back seat?
X2
Nice truck and all....
But going from a CM to a DC would be a huge let down for "ME".

statcoder is right, I accidentaly posted a link to my photobucket to the wrong pic. that one particular pic was from lighthouse toyota where I bough my crewmax. pic has been removed/replaced. I don't see why would some ppl jump to a conclusion that it's not my truck but whatever.
not trying to be mean or anything, but details of the transaction are not anyones business. what I paid for my crew max and what I paid for that dc is a combination of: local market/time of the year/negotiation skills/dealers decision.
all in all, my final cost is: $3.6k loan increase (tax on the difference and rebate included) and Avic D3 w/BT & iPod, and integrated with Toyota back up camera.
that was more than reasonable move for me. I got 4x4 drive, fewer miles (new truck) and killer package SAP+XSP. granted I got 2007 in return, and smaller cab (Cm is $2500-3000 premium over Dc)
but now I have a truck that I love and don't need to spend a dime on the appearance mods, period. I could spend $3k on my CM and wouldn't be happy.
my finances were not great recently due to the slump in construction, didn't score a lot of jobs recently. thanks to a small overhead, money put aside earlier and controlled living expenses I'm doing OK. I mentioned about my situation only so nobody thinks I'm some rich guy changing his toys every few months.
Whats it like going from the CM to the DC though? Does it feel ALOT smaller on the inside? Not having that huge back seat?
well, the same truck, engine, space up front. I did seat in the back but only on the parking lot. never rode there. so why did I buy Cm???
I really like the lifting rear seat in my DC. I bought the underseat storage and love it. all in all, I can fit a lot of tools there. the bigger bed is a plus too.
the only thing I don't like about the truck is lack of hitch (that can be taken care of cheap). lack of the rest of the tow package - I can live without it.
funny thing is, that one of the things that was holding me back from getting this truck for a week or two was missing trans cooler (that also can be taken care of if needed) and the freaking trans temp gauge. well, let me say, that since I bough that DC I don't even notice the missing gauge anymore. all the upgrades make up for it well
