Default oops smoked the rear end

i guess there not as tough as toyota wanted us to think they are!! i had a 96 1500 silverado that i beat WAAAAAYYYYY more than the tundra and it didnt give me any problems like this. the dealership is also looking into why my 4x4 wont disengage until the truck is cold. i still love the truck though.

so far
@ 1000 miles 1 leaf spring
@ 7000 miles power steering pump
@ 8800 miles rear end and whatever is wrong with the 4x4

Im not doing so well. as long as it gets fixed i dont care.

What's wrong with the rear end? What gears do you have?

Well I haven't had any problems except some switch in the power steering module that I wouldn't even have noticed except that the light came on in the dash. 13,000 problem free miles. By this point my 99 Ram had transmission seal blown, new power steering pump, something electronic fried (all under warranty but still . . .) None of my trucks get hammered too hard, except for hunting, bush roads, hauling 11,000 lb fifth wheel camper, 4X4 about 5 solid months a year on crap roads. . .

Maybe it's because of what I'm comparing it to, but I think this is a pretty tough truck in my experience

How many miles on your truck when you purchased it?

From the combination of stuff that has already failed on your truck, I'd think it's highly likely someone previously "test drove" your truck and did lots of burnouts and donuts from day one with zero amount of break-in on the drivetrain.

Just a theory

Thumbs up Re: oops smoked the rear end

Ive been a little disappointed in the cheesy plastic parts, sagging dash, loose antenna, woosy bumper, thin paint, interior trim peices...but my 2001 Dodge Ram had the rear end go out at 21k and it was a nightmare trying to get any warranty work on that truck. Props to Toyota for hae a good fllow through on their warranty.

There has been a couple people post on here about blowing the rear end...I wonder what's causing the failure...please keep us posted.
Former member TNK is one that comes to mind.

5.7 6speed to pkg not sure what gears.

i am an avid off-roader and i am the guy that everyone calls to pull them out. but it should have been abe to handle it. i drive it with caution off road to minimize wear and tear, unlike the chevy which got burried more time than i can remember, jumped (not full on but it caught air a couple of times) and almost rolled over once.

as time pass's we will all come to understand the truth about the alleged quality of these trucks.

Resell value is right at par with the many cheesy parts and the failures and the . . . . . .(steady decline)

Sorry to hear that man. For the most part these are great trucks but like others have said a few things need to be changed. I beat the sh!t out of my 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Hemi and never had a single problem with it until 99,000 miles. I chewed up the spider gear in the rear end. Im pretty sure you will be compensated for your car rental. Im actually surprised thery didn't offer to go rent it for you.

One wheel peeling will tear up the spider gears really fast, regardless of how big the ring gear is.

It's high time someone made a limited slip diff for this rear end.
