What diminished value do you honestly think there will be because of a fixed scratch??

The same thing happened to me last week except the dealer put a dent on my truck. What they will probaly do is fix it and the body shop that works with the dealership will give it lifetime warranty wherever it was fixed. For your situation they will probaly just warranty the repainted area. Yeah it freaking sucks huh... Oh yeah dont get any complimentary car washes from the dealer or the body shop (you will get A LOT of swirl marks on your paint, cause they will usually do a bad job polishing the area they fixed and improperly wash it) , make sure you tell them that. And I always thought the dealership was one of the safest places to get work done, like you pay more for a quality job but that dosen't always work out. I hope the best for you man, I know how it feels . Another thing is when you pick it up after it's repaired give it a thorough inspection, cause i'm finding like another problem everyday and having to drive back and fourth and is getting annoying...
oh yeah about that diminished value, I don't think it will go on like a carfax report so you will be pretty safe with private selling in the future IF the person buying isn't super good at looking for repairs on your truck. And if its the dealership buying back just say you guys did it, yall gotta buy it! I asked the dealership to compensate for diminished value but they didn't give me anything, they just said "you won't even know it was repaired" I can tell it was though cause the clear coat isn't the same. Maybe you can push them harder to compensate though cause all dealerships are differen't and have othey ways of dealing with these kind of problems.
Just my opinion and experience, again good luck and I'm sorry to hear about that.

diminished value is always a hard one to get. but to answer this question, ANYTIME a panel or anything is repainted it devalues the truck or car. always.

That situation sucks, but I think the best you're entitled to is paint repair. I don't think you'd get any less for your truck if you sold it (after paint repair) than you would had you sold it without being scratched. My last car was actually rear-ended before I made the first payment on it. The damage was minor -the rear bumper had a 2-3" split, that had to be patched and painted. It did have a police report, and thus a carfax ding.
2.5 years later Carmax appraised it, and I brought up the accident. The appraiser said if
the damage was superficial, ie no panels replaced, frame wasn't bent, etc, that it made no difference on trade-in value. He said that they repaint bumpers on most of the trade-ins due to scratches, stone chips, etc. No biggie.
You could go after the middle east and the environmentalists for diminished value. As gas prices rise, our truck values will fall...

Just make sure they do a good job on the repaint. Before you accept it take it outside in bright sun and look for paint match. Look at the truck from different angles and distances to make sure the paint is a good match.
Man these are the exact reasons i cringe when I have to take my truck in for any kind of work. I try to do what I can myself cause nobody is going to care about as your truck as much as you do.

This is NOT a CARFAX reportable incident.
Like said already; if done correctly, there will be no evidence therfore no diminished value.
