First of all, new to the forum, but love Toyota products.
I'm looking to purchase a new 08 Tundra CrewMax SR5 5.7L V8 in the next few weeks. I've been to the dealer and seen the running boards currently set on the trucks, as well as what could be installed at the dealer.
I was just wondering if you guys found better luck, a greater (and better) selection, and a lower price by looking somewhere aftermarket for the running boards? What would any of you suggest?
I have heard people complain about some of the after market steps being to skinny and some being to slippery...... my Toyota brushed stainless ones are perfect and I have no complaints.

running boards are a personal touch. If you ask 10 people, you'll get at least 7 answers. I looked around (dealer and on-line) and felt that Toyota's brushed stainless steps looked the best and were one of the strongest. Keep in mind, that is only MY opinion, based on MY tastes..... (but I'm usually right)

I agree with guntech. I bought the factory stainless RB's from my dealer's parts department and installed them myself. It's about a 30 minute job on the ground, less if you have a lift.

My wife's '07 Tundra had the Toyota brushed stainless boards when we bought the truck and neither of us liked the look. We decided to go with N-Fab nerf steps and they are probably the best modifications we've made. When I bought my '08 Tundra, N-Fab was the first company I called. And they are based in Houston.
I ordered mine directly from N-Fab and installed them myself. It's a 20min job and only requires a ratchet. The truck is already drilled/tapped for running boards. I used jack stands to hold the steps in place while I bolted them on.

I did the exact same thing as you, except I used my knee in place of a jack stand to hold them while I got the bolts started...

I have the Luverne Mega Steps. My wife has Parkinson's so I needed a functional step but I didn't what to compromise on appearance. They're like a cross between a nerf bar look and a running board. They can be adjusted foward and back, in and out. I installed them in about 1/2 hr. I'm very happy with them.

Reason: off topic
Just get some you like from the dealer and roll it in with the price of the truck. and be done. That's if you don't want to have to go back and buy separate.
