Dropped the Tundy off last week for an oil change and while in a rush said "yes" to having the service writer run it through the courtesy car wash when done. Naturally, I picked it up in the dark while in a hurry and all seemed fine...
The next day I finished the wash job by hand and noticed my weather stripping on the roof was missing on the driver's side! Not popped up, not laying in the bed, but MISSING altogether. Fortunately, I read that this was a frequent issue for other TS posters whom have had their trucks through an automatic car wash and was keen to checking over my vehicle. I promptly called the service writer who acted as if nothing happened when I initially brought it to his attention. However, he didn't so much as even question me (like he knew it happened and was hoping i wouldn't notice).
Needless to say, the dealer now needs me to bring it in again so they can replace the part on their dime and time. Looking over the truck saved me from having to give my service writer the big howdy-do-stick-my-Tundra-up-his-*ss
Moral of the story... CHECK OVER YOUR VEHICLE AFTER SERVICE WORK SO THOSE SNEAKY BA*TARDS CAN'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU.
Just run it through a touchless car wash.. no machine parts to grab at your vehicle and mess up something majorily. Although the air driers at the other end are a different story..
Took mine in to the dealer Express Lube on Wednesday for the 15,000 mine oil change and they were pretty busy, they changed my oil then pulled it out to pull it around to do the bays with the lifts to do the tire rotation, normally I watch over the truck all the way through the process but I did not do that this time. Sometime between when they pulled it out to do the tire rotation ( I found out later they pulled it over to the main shop because the express bays were full) and when they pulled it back in front after the "free" car wash they installed some scratches (pretty deep at one point) into the left rear fender over the wheel well. I did not notice them I guess because the truck was still dripping wet, well I did see them after getting home and was looking out of the kitchen window, at first I thought it was just a spot the brushes had missed but it was scratched, not real sure if it was one of the brushes from the carwash or from one of the poles outside of the garage doors (not dented). I took pictures and then went back up to the dealer and the only person left in the service department was an Asst. Manager who looked at the truck and said "yep it is scratched, call me in the morning and we will get you in and taken care of" I emailed him an account of what had happened along with the pictures that evening, the express lube manager called me the next morning saying she got my email and pictures and asked me to bring it in to the body shop where they would look at it and do whatever it takes to get it fixed. They buffed it,sanded it a little and buffed it some more, well the scratches are still pretty much there and I will be taking it in on Monday morning to have the panel repainted (no charge" ). Needless to say I will not be getting any more "free" carwashes with my oil changes, it it a good thing that the dealer did recognize their mistake and are willing to fix it, by the way this is the local dealer not the dealer where I bought the truck (dealer in my garage). Good luck with your truck getting fixed.

Take home is don't allow the dealer to wash the truck.
Also, please don't use the word "tundy". Sounds so gay.
Yes, tundy sounds very cute and feminine - I get shivers down my spine just saying it in my head
I hand wash all of my vehicles. Car washes destroy your paint and plastic parts.

Yup...I lost one of those weatherstrips and a center cap on my Moto Metals to a damn carwash...Too bad the sign says "wash at your own risk" so I guess I washed at my own risk lol. Whatever...it gets my truck super clean so I can't complain too much I guess.

One good thing about my dealer is they hand wash my Toyotas for free with a service. This to me is worth 20 bucks alone. They even clean the inside. I love my Toyota dealer!
my toyota dealer washed my truck with a broom. When I went to pick it up I saw all the scratches and They buffed and waxed it for free. never again will it go to the dealer. My heart dropped when I saw my 35000 black truck all scratched up. They tried to tell me I scratched it, Then I let my wife talk to them It was buffed and waxed the next day.....
This is why I have decided to change the oil in my Tundra myself the entire time I own it. The only time it will see a dealer service department is if warranty work needs to be done that I can't do myself.
I had an '04 4Runner and took it for an oil change at the dealership and they managed to SPRAY oil all over the exterior AND interior and then had the nerve to give it back to me in the rain and didn't even bother trying to clean any of it. So here I am driving home, oil on the windshield, can't see a thing, and when the rain stopped I finally realized that all of those supposed 'water spots' on my seats and carpet, were actually oil spots. The dealer offered to clean my 4Runner but nothing else. I've also had my door scratched during an oil changed and my fender dented. I have lost all hope in service departments.
