I'm pretty close to doing this mod but have a question.

Since I do not have the Nav but the upgraded JBL, bluetooth, CD changer radio, does anybody know how this would show the display and the many stations on the SAT radio? So I select the SAT button on the JBL but how do I change the stations on the Sirius?

Thanks for the great how to. I wanted sirius but didn't think I could handle the install. Ordered components off of ebay after watching your video. Will let you know how it goes.

Default Re: DIY: Sirius Satellite Installation

I installed mine this weekend, and it was a piece of cake- thanks to wleeb's video's on how to take everything apart.
Here is my input:
The center speaker grille is actually solid plastic- with a hole cut out where the speaker is. Due to this, I did not want to mount the antenna under that solid plastic, but I DO like the location on the dash.. It seems to have a decent field of view of the sky, and it is inside- keeping my antenna from the elements (versus mounted on the cowl) and also, my truck goes through a car wash with the big fabric rolling brushes, so mounting it on my roof would have gotten it knocked off every time I ran it through the wash..
So... What I did was just cut 2 more 1 inch strips from the plumber's tape that I used to mount the recievers under the cup holders (from wleeb's videos), and super glue those strips side by side to the underside of the solid section of the speaker grille- to the right of the speaker. From there, I just ran the antenna up from the front of the speaker grille right before I popped it back into place and then just stuck the magnetic antenna on top of the grille and it sticks to the metal on the underside of the grille. That way, my antenna is bove the speaker grille. The wire is tucked in at the front of the grille so it looks very clean, and the antenna has a great view of the sky. It does not obstruct my view of the clock or "info" at all either. I've had mine installed since Saturday afternoon, and the signal has not cut out at all with it mounted there unless I drive under bridges sometimes, etc.
Another tip: have that long antenna wire untangled (completely unraveled) before you go to route it. Mine was ALL knotted up, and it would have been a lot easier to untangle it if I had done that before I had half of it tucked up into the dash, etc...
Another tip: I did not actually bolt the metal plumber's tape into place like wleed did. Those bolts were a booger to get to, so I just wrapped the ends of the tape around existing "stuff" and that will stay in place just fine. I used about 20 iches of the tape instead of the 16.5 inches wleeb mentioned, which gave me more tape to tuck under the carpet in the front section, and then wrap around a plastic cross- piece under the cup holder for the back section.
VERY simple install guys... Don't be afraid to do it! SIRIUS ROCKS!!! I LOVE IT!!

To anwer your question WFO... Once it is instaled and powered up, you will actually have a SAT1, SAT2, and SAT3. (3 different bands, just like FM). I set 6 presets for Rock on SAT1, 6 presets for Country and R&B on SAT2, and 6 presets for my fiancee's dance/ electronica and other random stations on SAT3.
I do NOT have the "memo" and FF or RW features that I had on my old Sirius Starmate that I had in my old truck, but this integrated system is soooo clean and streamlined that I don't mind. The only thing you can see after the install is the tiny antenna on the speaker grille.
BTW, all info is displayed on my regular JBL system. You can push Text to switch beweeen displaying station name/ band name/ song name.. VERY COOL.

Sounds like a good way to mount the antenna, I know Wleeb sounded like he was loosing the signal from an under the speaker grill mount.

do you have some pics for us?

Question all. Does your display only show the first 10 letters of Names and songs? Sure wish the display would scroll the whole title or band name etc. Electric light Orchestra becomes " ELECTRIC L"

I did it! Very happy. I put the antenna were wleeb put his and it only cut out once or twice when I was in some heavy foliage. The whole installation took about an hour, and it would have been much quicker if my hands were smaller: it was a bugger to route the wires from the back of the head unit down to the underside of the center console. I do like having everything hidden, unlike my old unit with wires going every which way and the antenna falling off the dash onto the floor if I took a corner too fast

Before watching the videos I was worried about how to take the dash apart, but it really is a piece of cake. Just like Lego! LOL (my son's a big Lego fan).

Thanks for the tutorial wleeb

I'm just posting this here for anyone else like me who hates having to turn up your stereo to 50 to hear any sound when on SAT and then gets their ears blasted out when switching back to radio or CD. Now the volume seems the same from SAT as radio. Thanks FSS.

For all you others that have noticed the same problem, I came across an easy fix in another forum: turn on your HU to SAT input. Then press presets in succession 1 6 2 5 3 4.

I now have the same output level as the other inputs.

OK, need a little help here. I did this install today. Very simple and great write up. When I punch the AM/SAT button.... only AM. No satelite at all. I have the non JBL head unit. Am I missing something? I connected the 2 ebay units, ran the antenna, plugged the "T" wire into the blank spot on the back of the radio. Does the other end of the t wire that came with my directed unit go somewhere?

If you are talking about the double plug that goes to the factory radio you only use the plug that plugs in to your radio. The other plug not used. I had problems with the plug that goes to the back of the radio popping out. Maybe it came unplugged???

I had this problem most of the time (occasionally it would decide to scroll) until I disconnected the battery when doing the HC removal mod. Now it scrolls all the time!

BTW, I have th JBL radio so the switches on the TOY-SC1 is set at 10 characters and scrolling is on.

You change stations with the factory radio controls or on the steering wheel. I put in a Dock and Play so I could us it in the house and mounted it in the upper glove box. There is no need to get to it at all to operate. The display shows the 'Sirius Connect' logo with dim back-light when on.
