The grade tundra with the single cd player has just the AM button.

Would anyone know if there is anyway to install both this sirius satellite mod and a USA SPEC - PA15TOY?

First I would like to thank wleeb for the videos. They are the best i've seen for a do it yourself installation.

Second i have a question about how to equalize the volume. I read the above recommendations. the "1,6,2,5,3,4". So i went out to the truck and turned the head unit to the satellite position. Than i pushed those presets in that order. It doesn't appear to me that it made any difference. I was just wondering if someone could elaborate, or offer suggestions on what i might be doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help. I have the 2008 tundra dbl cab and the non-jbl radio, but it is the 6-disc changer with the sat. capabilities.

Are your Sat tuners made by Directed Electronics??? The difference in volume on mine was very noticeable.

Yep, that's who the tuner and vehicle interface is made by. I guess it's as good as it's going to get unless someone know's of another tuner that is better.

Wleeb,
first of all thanks for taking the time to show us how you did the Sirius install. I watched the video clips a few times before attempting myself. In fact without your video I would not have known where to start.

I am fairly handy but always worry about breaking somthing when tackling these projects. My 08 crewmax had a slightly differnent appearance uner the console than yours. Different bolt locstions and a little less room. I did attach the interface module in the console but located the tuner on the passenger side fender wall. I found a pre-drilled/threaded 6mm hole that was perect for attaching the tuner. There was plenty of cable to reach the interface module.

I also mounted the antenna outside on the roof. About parallel with the tuner, on the firewall, is a grometed pass through. i passed the Antenna throough there. Used the windshield molding as a conduit up to the roof. I could have stopped there and just put the Antenna on the passenger front roof. Instead I used the roof molding stip as a conduit also and ran the Antenna to just behind the rear door.

Not saying this was better, just worked for me.

I cant emphasis enough how grateful I am that you took the time to share your process as without it I probabaly would not have tackled this project.

First off, Wleeb thanks for taking the time to do the videos great info on the install. They were awesome!

I have the factory Nav unit and now I'm torn between going with the factory style install or going with a Plug and Play style much like Boathik's. Also on page 1 of this post.

I used a 'Dock and Play' (Starmate 4) radio so that i can use it in my house or with the universal car unit that it came with in a different vehicle. The 'converter' (TOY-SC1) is under the dash per Spark's instructions. The dock and play radio is on the Sirius Connect dock (SCVDOC1) in the upper glove box. The antenna is under the center speaker grill mounted with hot-melt glue. Reception is pretty good and all the controls are through the stock head unit and steering wheel controls. I particularly like that the radio is out of sight and there are no bright and distracting lights like with a universal dock.

Advantages of the plug and play
-Better controlls through the plug and play.
-Depending on how you hook it up you may be able to use the factory steering wheel controls, touch screen control or the plug and play unit.
-Able to remove the plug and play unit and use in the office, home or other auto. (need additional antenae and power supply.
-Better display than stock nav unit.
-Record and playback with the plug and play unit.
-Plug and play unit $100 is cheaper than the XM tuner $179

Disadvantages
-May have a couple of wires hanging out unless you do an install like Boathik's
-Will have to buy additional antennae and powersupply (charger) to play in other vehicle.

Are those of you who have the factory units happy with the stock unit or do you wish you would've got an aftermarket plug and play unit.

This is the one I've been looking at Xpress RC for XM.
http://www.xmradio.com/xpressrc/index.xmc I've found it for as little as $110

I definitely don't want a bunch of wires all over the place but I do like the idea of having a unit I can move from one vehicle to another.

Just looking for some input.

Hello, I've been here for a while but first time posting. I was just wondering if anyone noticed the AM reception level decreased after activating the SAT (Sirius in my case).

Thanks,

XM Satellite Radio - America's #1 Satellite Radio Service I've found it for as little as $110

Jimmy,

When you use the Dock and Play, you don't get to use the controls on the Sirius unit, all controls are through the factory radio and steering wheel controls. The record function is deactivated and the display just shows a dimly back-light Sirius logo.

I have the non-nav JBL so I can not speak for what is displayed on the dash.

The Dock and Play base came with an antenna so you can keep your universal base and antenna to use in other vehicles. It is also powered through the base, not a cigarette lighter.

Check out SIRIUS Radio, SIRIUS antennas, SIRIUS accessories | TSS-Radio

Hope this helps.

Boathik - thanks for inputs. I was a little curious how the stock unit works with the external plug and play unit.

Not being able to use the plug and play unit's controls isn't too big of a deal. I do like the option of being able to use the plug and play unit outside the truck. Especially since it's less expensive and does essentially the same thing and more as the $180 tuner for a lot cheaper that you hide under the console.

Were you able to connect the base unit directly to the back of the stereo using an adapter cable or did you have to use the FM modulator or antenae connection?

What I'm looking for is a stock looking connection or hidden connection with the ability to use the stock controls and still be able to utilize the unit in my home/office or other car.

Does anyone know if the stock controls on the Nav unit are any good for manipulating the XM stereo?

Thanks for you help.

New Guy here...
Picked up my '08 double cab sr5 in January! Can't believe I didn't get one of these sooner. I just got done doing the Sirius install and it could not have gone better. Thank you wleeb! I installed the antennae under the speaker grill, beneath the solid plastic. Works flawlessly.

I do have one thing to report... I have a Kensington iphone docking station that charges my phone as well as hooks it up to the aux input. After the install, it will not charge my phone.? I checked to see if it was working by putting the cigarette lighter back in. It works fine. I pulled out the bottom piece again and reattached both of the outlets. Still no juice for the charger. Wondering if I did something or if my charger is just dead. Should I unhook the battery again?

Does the cigarette lighter do the charging? If so, try another cigarette lighter in a different car...B.

129.99 and free shipping from fleabay as of today for the complete package. Very tempting... but wife-y says No.
