Default DIY Contest-Seatbelt Chime and Light Be-Gone for Free!!!

DIY-Seatbelt Chime and Light Be-Gone for Free!!!

First off, THE DISCLAIMER....
The safest way to disable the chime is to wear your seatbelt at all times. Seat belts on while driving is the law. Again, it is far safer to wear your seat belt, at all times, while in a vehicle.

That is unless you are an Ice Road Trucker.

-------------------------------------------------------------

The chime, ding, bong, gong...whatever you want to call it, an extremely annoying bong bong bonging for 30 seconds, reminding you that ya forgot your seatbelt ya nut!

But, what if you want to put your case of beer, lunch box, brief case, box of grenades, laptop bag, groceries, the package you picked up at the post office, 5 gallon bucket of Astroglide, or your good buddies Tank and Tiny on the passenger seat?

What if you want to remove your seat belt while on your own private land or farm?

What if you want to remove your seatbelt while on a job site?

What if the folks at your local dealer service center are a bunch of incompetent turd burglars and refuse to disable the chime?

What if you just don't want to hear it, when you just don't want to wear it?

Well...have I got the mod for you.

It's been mentioned many times before, but never put into a DIY.
First I heard of it was about a year ago from StatCoder and a PetSmart card.
  • Can be activated or reversed in seconds
  • Should only take a few minutes to construct
  • Completely safe
  • Invisible to your dealer
  • Does not affect the functionality of the airbags
  • Will not affect your warranty
------------------------------------------------------------

First the tools and raw manufacturing materials...

  • Two beers, maybe more, maybe less and you choose what kind you like. For today's purposes I choose Red Stripe, mmmmm
  • A bottle opener, or any other sort of beer opening device
  • Your standard, everyday, DVD case (or any other semi-flexible plastic should do just fine)
  • A Sharpie (Extra Fine Point)
  • An X-Acto Knife
  • A Pair of Scissors (these curved type work nice)

First things first, let's get one of those beers open...

Method 1

Method 2

After all, I got married and insisted on a Tungsten Carbide ring for a reason...opening beers!

Well, that and a saw blade took out those missing parts of my fingers and I figured it was only fitting since saw blades are Carbide tipped...Doh!

Ah, yes...the first sip of that bad boy, mmmmm. Someone needs a shave.

OK, project time.

1st, tear off that clear plastic sheet.

Yeah, just grab on and tear it right the heck off.

Now we tear the case in two, we will not need the DVD holder side.

Keep the document side of the case and grab your Sharpie.

Might as well take another drink, we are going to need a steady hand for this next part.

Line up the stock buckle on the case half so you can get a pair traced out.

After you've traced, it should look like this...

and this.

Now, back to the tailgate workbench. Get your X-Acto and cut out the center square portion...

Both sides, like so.

Take yourself a drink if you made it through without losing any more appendages.

Scissors now for cutting the outline.

Carefully cut out your pattern...

There is one.

Get ready, here comes number two...

and now you should have this.

So pretty...

Wait! What's going on with that beer?

Trim off the corners like so.

Check that beer, it seems kinda empty...

Here they are in all their glory.

They sure look good next to an empty beer bottle.

Close up, notice the detail.

Are you sure the beer was empty, better check...YES!, one drop left.

OK, now for my storage location.

They clip right in there like it was made for em'.

Perfect fit and easy to get to.

Now let's take a test drive around the neighborhood to check out the functionality.

Load up the boys...

Test drive 1, Video #1 and #2...with light weight passengers...notice the passenger air bag is off.

Video #1 (Clicking the image below will take you to the video on PhotoBucket)
or here is an optional Youtube link Video #1

Video #2 (Clicking the image below will take you to the video on PhotoBucket)
or here is an optional Youtube link Video #2

Now back in the driveway, waiting for the wife to come home, so she can model your product and take a test drive to prove proper air bag indicator operation.

Crack open that other beer since you won't be driving for a while...enjoy a job well done.

Day 2.

Wife modeling the comparison next to the freshly detailed Tundra.

Test drive 2, Video #3

Note, the passenger air bag is on.

Video #3 (Clicking the image below will take you to the video on PhotoBucket)
or here is an optional Youtube link Video #3

Completely shameless plugs...

Hey, at least I shaved today.

I like these better.

Hottie...

Man, am I one lucky SOB or what?

Thanks everyone...writing this up has been fun!!!
