Default Re: Stock 5.7 intake mods & experiments

I've got a nice weekend planned since the wifey is out of town. I plan on doing the black headlight mod, dash LCD's, and a new sub box.

While I have the lights out, I will see what I can come up with on the ram air setup under the headlight through that plastic piece. I think the good thing is, you dont have to cut the plastic piece till the end, you can leave this peice off, duct it up, run it , see if you like it, etc without putting the plastic piece back on- and if you like it, THEN cut the plastic to make it work and put it on the truck.

I tried this mod last night, removed HC and ribs except I'm still using the stock filter and I put my hole towards the front of the box...where it dips down.
I wasn't going to cut any holes until I noticed a small hole by the intake, that's why I put my cut in that area.
Not sure if I like it yet, seems to bog when I give her the onion off the line but then she picks up and I THINK I feel a slight difference.
I'm starting to contemplate trying a cone style air filter inside the box. I know someone tried this before, wonder how it's working for him.

Thumbster,
Thanks for the posts on this! I'm not sure if you would know this, but I've been contemplating doing the TRD CAI before seeing your post here. Do you think the two mods are comparable in terms of mpg, power, etc.? The reason I ask is that saving the extra money would definitely be helpful, but I like the TRD solution -- it seems to be a better fit and performs better than some of the other alternative CAIs. If you think the two compare fairly well to each other or if one solution is clearly better, I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks!

Patched up the hole I made and the bog is gone now.
I wish the CIA's weren't so expensive.
