Great job swank, you are right (in my opinion) the contrast of the different color makes it look really good, black wheels are way too overdone.

Ok I'm really wanting to do this mod now but I need some opinions. My tundra is slate metallic and I don't know what color would look the best. Should I color match, black, or grey? Any input is much appreciated.

one question...im assuming since there are no wheel weights on outside edge that they ar ethe stuck inside the rim kind....if you have to rebalance do you think its going to leave a silver spot where the old weight was? just looking into the future....thanks!!

Yeah I thought about that. Hopefully the tire shop will let me bring a can of spray to touch up any spots that may leave

Great DIY. I painted my SR5 wheels using the same paint and laborous prep process. I also did my calipers. The spray can is about $5.00, and yields a smoother finish compared to the brush method. Sorry my truck was so dirty!

That being said, this paint has a limited life span compared to a baked on paint finish or powdercoat...regardless of prep investment and the fact that it is for wheels. Do not expect the finish to remain flawless!!! Wheels exist in a tough environment.

Still, for an afternoon and minor monetary investment, you can have a custom look that will last for a while.

Swank, nice job and all, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't an organic vapor mask you were wearing. It was basically just a particulate mask that will do nothing to stop organic vapors. What you should have had was a Norton or Wilson half-face respirator with organic vapor cartridges.

:wood: man, I am feeling some movement from South of the Beltline for those calipers and painted rims...

It said it was on the package ??? It has a black layer sandwiched in there that isn't in a normal dust mask.

Regardless there are far superior half mask and fresh air systems that are better suited for heavy spraying, but I was outside and didn't really have a lot of vapors hanging out around my face.

Third- How long would you say that finish lasted? I'm not expecting it to last forever, but I better get atleast a solid year or two.

After all that prep work, I really wish I would have been at my shop back home and used some DuPont Chroma system. That would have lasted forever but would have been alot more$$$$$. I guess you make do when you're living the college life

I suck at PS but I am trying to learn. Here are a few ideas. If you have a higher quality pic I can do a little better.

Black wheels.

Slate wheels.

Slate wheels with headlight and front emblem also painted.

Hope this helps.
Steve
