If you have the issue and have not gone back to have them add lubrication to the internals of the slip yoke, you should have that done. I'd be willing to bet it'll cure your problem. It did for myself and BigDerf. It's been almost a week for me and still no clunk/thud. Hopefully it'll stay that way.
I understand that this worked for you and some others. I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. When I spoke with the service manager I think he said something to the effect of simply adding grease via the zerk. I think he also said that the "slip yoke" comes as a sealed unit. What can you tell me that would allow me to properly explain this to the service manager?

If he says adding grease via the zerk will cure the problem he doesn't know what he's talking about. They have to break the driveshaft down and add synthetic grease internally. It's a 2 piece drive shaft, it will come apart. Tell him to call toyota technical which is who my dealer (Arlington Toyota in Jacksonville, FL) worked with. Or have him call the service manager at my dealer. Nelson Ryan or Thomas Hencel. They can explain anything he needs to know.
toyota needs to send another tsb for lubing up the internals of the slip yoke. i guess the driveshaft replacement doesnt do the trick unless the slip yoke is greased.
One more question. Please explain how simply adding grease to a joint will keep the drive line from banging. If the problem is caused by improper tolerances how can grease significantly alter the lock-up of something under as much pressure as the drive line on the Tundra? Thank you.

As you stated before, i'm also not a mechanic by any means but what I can say is that two piece drive shafts are made to have give or play in them. Now, if your truck is like mine was when you come to a stop or take off you feel the clunk/thud. Apparently that is the driveshaft where the two pieces come together (slip yoke) binding, not being able to freely move. When the grease is added, it can move freely as it was designed to do. All i can say is mine is still smooth and today i towed our bass boat with no issues as well.

That makes a lot more sense. I was thinking that the clunk was from looseness or play in the drive line and that adding grease would keep that from happening (which didn't sound plausible). But your explanation of the clunk being caused by a lack of lubrication and thus the binding makes sense. So in essence, the problem is caused by things being too tight rather than too loose. Thank you.
I have the "bump" in mine but it is very minor. I would like to try taking my driveshaft off and lubing the slip yoke myself. Is it that simple, what needs to be "broke down". What kind of synthetic grease is recommend ??

Well, as you stated, the driveshaft TSB does NOT fix the clunk/thud felt when coming to a stop or taking off. I just picked up my truck from the dealer. They replaced the driveshaft ($1609 in parts and labor!!) and although the clunk/thud feeling is reduced, it is not gone.
Can any of you guys that have had the driveshaft replaced and had it broken down and lubed post up your service slip from the dealer or any other details of what exactly was done to the driveshaft? Your help is appreciated.
Thanks

I personally did not get a copy of the paperwork from when they actually fixed my truck by adding the lubrication to the slip yoke. They had me test drive the truck as soon as they were finished and when I got back and told the service guy all was good i didn't even bother getting any paperwork. They'll have it on record if I ever need it.
But myself and another have described exactly what was done. I would imagine any dealer that doesn't know about this fix yet can simply call toyota technical.
i taking off work tomorrow and taking in my truck to see about this. i have written the dealership numbers down that some of you guys posted. if they dont know what im talking about i will have them call. thanks for the number and the contacts. only thing in the back of my mind is i have a leveling kit and a rear block, and i hope they dont give me a hassle about that.
Any luck with your dealer? Did they find solution for your truck?
No luck yet. They replaced the drive line about a week ago. I am still waiting to hear back from my local dealer after they talk with their regional tech rep. I will keep everyone posted as soon as I hear anything. Thanks for asking.

I have a leveling kit on my truck and my dealer didn't even mention it. I don't have a rear block but I doubt you'll catch any flack. It's obvious from all the complaints about this issue that its there on completely stock trucks so I can't imagine them even trying to prove your mods caused the issue.
