got back from the dealer today and my new driveshaft will be here tomorrow. I will take it in next saturday cause I'm going out of town tomorrow. I brought the tsb with me and they were super nice. They didn't even say anything about my leveling kit.
just a follow up post. just picked up my truck from the dealer about an hour ago and i am happy to say i do not have any take off thuds or stopping thuds. they only replaced the driveshaft that i know of. i told them that some of yall had theirs replaced and it did not help and they needed to lube the slip yoke. they said they have to do the replacement first to see if it works. so far so good, and will have to wait awhile to see if it stays this way. it totally drives like a different truck and i am happy. thanks to all who have posted helpful information.
As others have said it's not really something you hear but rather you feel it. Mine does it every single time i come to a complete stop and then take off again. Coming to a stop its almost like you get nudged from behind, you feel a thud or clunk kind of like the rear end is settling. Taking off the best way i can describe it is that it feels like there is slack in the drive line. Like it takes a split second for things to tighten up.
Put your truck in park then get under it and grab the drive shaft move it back & fourth.
You will feel the slack and your clunk feeling in your hand.
Just got mine back from the dealer today and they replaced my driveline. STILL does it. the same as everyone here has explained. feels like someone "bumps" me from the rear when stopping and starting from a stop. Tried to put some small spacers under the carrier bearing to help straighting out the driveline as well. They already had a "driveline' at the dealer, don't know if it's an old one or a current mod. drive shaft. I do have the 3" front, 1"back lift, 20" 305/55 Toyos, All dealer installed. Don't know what to do now.........
This is the first Toyota truck I've ever owned that didn't have a zerk to lube the slip yoke. Toyota cut corners on this driveshaft and now we are all paying for it. They need to put a zerk on that slip yoke and then put out a new TSB.

I agree. My old tacoma had a zerk for the slip yoke. But knock on wood, since my dealer added lubrication to the slip yoke my tundra is still thud/clunk free. For all those out there that have only had the driveshaft TSB done and not the grease added, I highly recommend you take it back if you still have the problem.

Yeah, I had my driveshaft replaced and my thud/clunk is still there. I will plan on taking it in soon to get it lubed. Hopefully it will help. I'll keep you all posted.

I just picked my truck up 3 weeks ago and I notice the clunk... none when stopping, just starting from traffic lights and such...
I thought it was something I had in the backseat first, but I took everything out and I still hear it... I dont so much feel it, but its a deep thud, so Im guessing I have this problem.
I just checked and my VIN doesnt look like its covered in the PDF page. Im bringing it in anyway. Im putting the Truxxx on this weekend, and dont want them to give me hell in the future if it becomes more of a problem.
On my tacoma, the dealer tried to tell me they needed to replace the whole driveshaft assembly, but I just greased it up and havent heard a peep in 8 months. But cant do that on this truck....
Are there people having this problem on brand new trucks recently??? (i really dont wanna read through 12 pages of posts to find out)
ok, another follow up post. i had a new driveshaft put in a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine. i have started noticing the take off thud and the stopping thud coming back. it is nothing like what i had before but it is still there. i told them about lubing the slip yoke before they put in the new driveshaft, but they said they will have to try just the driveshaft first to see if it works, and if it doesnt they will have to contact toyota and get another fix. this is starting to get ridiculous with all these little bugs.

I'm in the same boat. I do agree with you though. ALl of these little bugs weren't expected from a Toyota. So far the driveshaft clunk, passenger side dash sinking, and now my stock cd/radio is turning off on its own and the display goes blank. What's up Toyota? I'm definitely going back in to have my dealer fix this driveshaft issue. Otherwise, I smell a lemon..........

You hit the nail on the head. This would be the permanent fix. Like the tailgate I'll wait till they offer the correct fix before I run my truck in.
Also had my driveshaft and center bearing replaced per the TSB and the clunk is still thier! THis is my 3rd time to the dealer for the same problem. They now have the regional Toyota rep meeting me at the dealer on Sept 10th for a solution.

I am in the same boat. I had my driveshaft replaced once, clunk still there. I went in yesterday and told them about how lubing the internals of the driveshaft worked for others and they proceeded to tell me they can't because its a sealed unit blah blah blah. I told them there were numerous Tundra owners who have had this done and it fixed the problem and then I told them I had contact information to other dealres that have done this. They didn't want any of it, saying they would have to contact Toyota and see what they say. They said they were going to have a FTS or TFS or FST representative from Toyota drive it and see what he thinks. I get a call and they are going to order a 2nd new driveshaft. So I am waiting for it to come in.
Anyone have the number to Toyota Technical or Corporate so we can get some first hand information on this annoying issue? This is getting alittle out of hand.

The number to corporate is 1-800-331-4331. I called myself and started a case for this issue and this is what led to my dealer taking the driveshaft apart to lube the slip yoke. Corporate was fully aware as they called me the same evening i returned home after my dealer performed the fix. I don't have my case manager contact info with me right now but i can get it if you would like it.
