I don't have my case manager contact info with me right now but i can get it if you would like it.
Charged - Thanks for the number. I will give them a call and see if they can shed some light on this issue. The funny thing is that I just spoke to my service manager and he said that Toyota will not allow them to disassemble the driveshaft to lube it. He said that came straight from Toyota. He did say a non-dealer Toyota Rep was in yesterday and drove my truck and instructed them to order a new driveshaft. He also said Toyota is requesting all Tundra driveshafts to be sent back to Toyota for inspection, something the dealer doesn't normally do with warranty parts being replaced. I'll report back.

UPDATE: So I called Toyota Corporate and they said they will contact the dealer and set up an inspection with a Factory Service Technician (FST - non dealer affiliated). I told them that the dealer had an FST at the dealer the day I was there to inspect the truck. Anywyas, the dealer called back and said the plan is to still install a 2nd new driveshaft and that lubing the driveshaft is not authorized by Toyota. I'm gonna be pretty upset if this second new driveshaft still thuds like the first new one.

Update:
My driveline was replaced a few weeks ago and I still have the clunk. The local service manager was trying to get some answers from his regional tech. Not having heard anything, I contacted the local manager and asked that they re-grease the slip yoke. He agreed to do it even though he doesn't think it will be a permanent fix. He stated that they used to do it a lot to the Tacomas.
I took my truck in this morning and should have it back this afternoon. The local manager also stated that a regional rep should be in town in September and he will have him look at it then.

I will keep you updated.

I had the slip yoke greased and it did NOT work. The next step is to wait for the factory rep to inspect it in the middle of Sept.

i believe the tacomas have a zerk for the slip yoke and ours dont. wonder if they took your truck back and realized it doesnt have the zerk like the tacomas and just gave it back to you and said they greased it. i agree toyota needs to do something about this.

I was thinking the same thing. After they greased mine it completely cured it and it's still clunk free after well over a month. And mine wasn't the only one with the same fix performed at my dealer.

Conider yourself lucky. I'm waiting for a new cd/radio player to come in and I go back to the dealer for a 2nd new driveshaft and the cd player of course. This instruction is coming from Toyota Corporate not the dealer. I guess Toyota just likes to replace parts and hope that the problem goes away or the customer will forget about it. I won't.............

I feel your pain. The tundra I have now is my 2nd 2007 tundra. The first one was bought back by southeast toyota due to the driveshaft issue (but nobody knew what it was then). For that truck my dealer (instructed by toyota) replaced the driveshaft, rear end, and complete transmission to no avail. I finally told them I didn't want it back and luckily the dealer and SET worked with me and bought it back without me having to persue the lemon law deal.

My second and current tundra developed the driveshaft issue shortly after taking delivery and my dealer was pretty good about working with me..they truly wanted to correct my issue. They first replaced the torque converter which obviously did no good. After that i waited patiently until I saw the TSB come out on replacing the driveshaft. Had that done, didn't fix it. They told me they would keep thinking and talking to technical but i lost my patience after about 2 weeks and called corporate. The next day they have my truck in, lubed the slip yoke after breaking down the drive shaft assembly and now all is well.

Charged - Not to stray away from the topic here, but did your dealer buy back your Tundra for what you paid or did they replace it with an exact truck?

It was bought back by Southeast Toyota which is the distributor/supplier of all Toyota vehicles and parts for the entire Southeast region of the U.S. And it was bought back for exactly what I paid so I didn't lose a dime. That truck spent more time in the shop than it did with me and it was from the right after I took delivery.

Before I saw the TSB, I had had my truck in to at least 3 dealers for the clunk issue. All said it was normal. After I saw the TSB, I had my driveshaft replaced. More subtle clunk but it is still there. I also developed a very annoying vibration in my gas pedal and floorboard about the time of my front diff and driveshaft replacement. I was getting so annoyed with it all. Yesterday I took my truck in again for the clunk and vibration. They said that they found some loose bolts on the transmission and torqued them up. Clunk a little better but still not gone. The vibration however is pretty much gone. I asked how the bolts could get loose? They had no idea but said that they weren't touched with the front diff and driveshaft replacement.

I still have some clunk.

On Tuesday I'm taking mine also for this same issue. When I was talking to the service tech I told him about the TSB and he thats prob not the problem, it may be the torque converter. We'll see...
This will be my first trip to this dealer for a warranty repair.
I'll update more next week.......

Going on two months now and mine is still working like a champ! They greased the yoke on the driveshaft... Corp told me that it would be acceptable and would not affect driveline warranty. Also this was done after the torque converter and trans replaced! On top of it now I have a shutter coming from the transmission at really low speeds. Another transmission to follow I am sure. I also know of about 20 trucks they have done the grease job to and none have complained Charged Taco and i where the first two. I think.

I think we were the first two and mine is still working great as well.

I don't have any transmission shudder but i do have a slight shudder/vibration that i only feel upon takeoff from a dead stop. It feels more like the rear end or from the center support bearing area. I know some other people on the board have this as well. My truck has done it since it was new but I haven't brought that issue up at the dealer yet. It really isn't that big of a deal and I was more concerned about the clunking.
