Sorry, no fix yet. Toyota finally called me back 3 weeks after they initially called me to tell me that they don't think the problem is a safety issue and the truck is safe to drive and that there is not fix at this time. I asked, "So now what? I have to drive around with this annoying thud forever?" They basically said they are looking into it and to call back in a couple of weeks.
I hate driving with this thud/clunk sensation. It's driving me crazy to think I spent all this money to have this issue. Makes me wish I would have waited to buy a Chevy 2500 Duramax, just couldn't afford it at the time.
Anyone have any new info?
thats funny you mentioned the chevy 2500. my buddy just got a job at the local chevy dealership and i called him today for some info on the 2500 6.0L. he said all they have is duramax right now. anyway he said a guy came in today and traded an 08 tundra reg cab for a new silverado ext cab 4x4. he complained of gas mileage. i pretty sure the reg tundra get better mileage than the chevy 4x4 anyway. he said he got alittle over 20 grand for the tundra on the trade
In other discussions on this topic I think I have seen mention of a problem with the torque converter. I mentioned that to the dealer and they seemed unaware of any such issue. It might be a less common problem, but a problem just the same. If you search the threads you might find some info on the subject. In my case I was getting the clunk mostly when I turned into my driveway. Then more recently I noticed a clunk when downshifting with very little pedal into it. In that instance it feels more like slack in the drive train.
I had a similar problem in my '02 Merc Mountaineer at 30K miles. They replaced the entire rear end and it went away.......for about a month. I never had it addressed again and ran it another 50K miles with no real problem. I am hoping in my case that the new driveshaft solves the problem with the Tundra.

I had a chance to borrow a 2008 Chevy 2500 4WD LTZ Duramax CrewCab and it was one sweet ride. This thing had Nav., DVD, leather, heated seats and a $55k MSRP! I know I know this kind of truck was out of my price range.
Anyways, I'll try calling Toyota sometime next week.

like i said before i had the driveshaft replaced...thud, slack, clunk (whatever it is), seems to have gotten better but still exists. However, Im not sure if the air temperature has anything to do with it...temp has dropped alot since i first noticed the prob. I've decided to ride it out till spring and re-evaluate then. If anyone hears of Toyota narrowing down a for sure fix to the slack/clunk feel somewhere in the driveline please, please post something. Thanks

the cold temps sure does help. i really cant feel it anymore. i almost forget about it completely until the temp rises alittle, and there it is again. i guess this truck likes the cold, because my clock wont lose a second of time when its cold, but it wont keep the right time at all in the summer.
