OMG thanks for posting that. I have been to two different dealers about the problem and each one said it was normal. I have posted up about the issue here (as have many others) and it seemed to be just the way the truck behaves. It is annoying as he##!!!!
How do you read the affected VINs? How do you know if yours is before the ones in the list?
I can't wait to get this fixed!

Reason: additional question
its great that yall are getting it fixed... I dont think I have it on mine but I noticed the exact same feeling in my moms 07 4.7 all time 4x4 4runner. I wonder if it could have affected the other line ups.

I just returned from my dealer and ended up having to take the service manager for a ride so he could verify the clunk/thud existed. He felt it and was very nice about everything. Luckily I took a copy of the TSB that was posted as the manager told me he hadn’t even received it yet from Toyota. He also told me he had a customer a week or so ago with the same problem and he will be calling him now that he’s aware of the fix. They are ordering the part and I’ll take my truck in to have it replaced as soon as it arrives. Hopefully it will indeed solve the problem.
funny, i noticed this right away with mine. i took it in and asked them about it and they said it was NORMAL. every vehicle does it. i then went on to tell them about my nissan, and how that did the same thing after about 20k miles. then at 25k miles, i blew my rear diff turning a corner. i mentioned that to the dealer and all they had to said was "that was a nissan, you're now driving a toyota. and thats normal". people at the dealers must thing pretty highly of themselves......

It feels like slack. thats the best way to say it. When I left off the gas then push on it anymore than lightly, It thuds and goes, like a delay in gearing.

This is the issue? I've assumed this is normal. Wow. I guess I'll wait to hear how the fix works.
I have to say- I am very happy that this has been isolated as a fixable issue.. I love my Tundra, but whenever someone asked me if I liked my new truck, this issue always came to my mind... I have a good extended warranty, so I was not really worried about it, but it was just ANNOYING! I can't wait to get this fixed.
Those of you who do get this addressed by the dealer, please be sure to post up about your results! I'm sure you will be! Hopefully with positive results.

How do they narrow down the VIN's for these TSB's?
My VIN is 5TFBV54168X0599--
It seems as though my VIN is NOT included in this TSB (at least, I think I'm reading the TSB correctly...), yet I cetainly have the "clunk".
So it will be interesting to see what the dealer says. Ovviously, the TSb tells me Toyota's stance is now that the CLUNK is NOT normal and should be repaired, yet they believe my truck falls outside of this issue.
Either way, I expect it to be fixed, hopefully this isn't an excuse for them to play hardball and not fix my truck because it falls outside the VIN range.
How many others have the CLUNK but have VIN's outside the VIN ranges?

Typically those VIN ranges denote when a defective (or needs to be replaced) part was in production. Supposedly all trucks made after that VIN range already have the fix.
Just look at your vehicle's VIN.. it states clearly in the TSB that if your VIN falls in the number range prior to the production change VIN, you are eligible for the TSB procedure. That is all there is to it. Print out the TSB and bring it with you just in case your dealer hasn't seen the memorandum/TSB.
Guys, maybe I am missing it, if so...sorry. But I don't see a range. For my engine, it says that the TSB applies if your VIN is before 5TFKV521#8X002539. How do I know that? Does it go by the alphanumberic code after the 5TF or by the numeric digits after the X?
My VIN is 5TFBV54177x016370

My truck have the clunk and its outside the VIN range too.
i feel it on my truck from the very first day but i though it was normal. thanks for posting this. but i dunno how to read the vin. can anyone help me read it please? this is my vin number. i beleive its not in the range but i feel the slack. also it says on the recall you put here on how to test it but i also dunno how to do it it says as follows: PLACE THE TRANSFER CASE IN 4WD HIGH WITH THE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED. REMOVE THE REAR DRIVESHAFT AND TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE.
IS THE CLUNK/THUNK NOISE ELIMINATED WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND/OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP?
IF YES REPLACE REAR DRIVE SHAFT
IF NO THIS TSB DOES NOT APPLY.
OK I HAVE A QUESTION: I KNOW HOW TO PUT IT IN 4WD HIGH OBVIOUSLY BUT WITH THE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED? WHAT IS THIS. AND THE REMOVE THE REAR DRIVESHAFT? WHAT IS THAT ALSO? DOES ANYONE KNOW? THANK YOU VERY MUCH

That is for the dealership to diagnose the problem. By powering only the front wheels (removing the rear drive shaft), you will be able to tell if the clunk goes away.
thanks rone appretiated. i will go tomorrow to the dealer
