Call me crazy but i don't think there should be any slack in a driveline. I've driven chevy/GMC's and they didn't have any. The truck I had before my tundra was a 2001 tacoma and it didn't have driveline slack either. My dealer has ordered the part for mine so hopefully sometime next week it will be in and on my truck. I'm hoping it'll cure the problem.

I've never timed the slack my truck produces. All I can tell you is that from a dead stop when i step on the gas I feel a thud/clunk like a delay before the drivetrain engages. And yes, my VIN is in the affected range.

Keep in mind that the TSB says the fix REDUCES the condition...it doesn't FIX it. Also, I don't believe we're talking about a little "slack" either.

This is how someone described it (below)...and this is what the dealer is looking for apparently...

"I pull up to a stop sign and it feels like I've been rear ended. Then, when you start out, it feels like the brake release is delayed with another klunk. I've been told the two piece drive shaft gets air compressed inside, and when the compression leaks out, you get the klunk. "

The 4Runners V8 4WDs have this condition as well....No TSB

Its about time, I posted last year and also went to the dealer for this problem. Its not in my head anymore. Just called the dealer and they did not even know about this new TSB until I called. They would order the new drive shaft next week for me.

Daguer, why would you think that was normal? If you feel what I feel, that is not normal. I have never felt another vehicle that I have driven do this, ever.

Oh yeah, and I figured out the range in the document. Not exactly clear, but from what I can figure, my VIN is in the range.

i dunno man. i didnt think a 2008 40k dollars truck has a problem like that. and besides that i had used trucks all my life. i thought little bump felt kinda slack was normal. maybe mine does it so little that i think its normal, since my vin is not on the list. but i know that little slack(thats how i call it) has something to do with that issue. but now i dont know if its enough slack to have it repaired or not. like some said here. it is not goin to be fixed. just improved. i dont know what to do now. maybe i wait for some of you guys to have it changed and see if it was completely fixed or just improved. thanks for everything here.

I don't think anybody here knows yet what the outcome of the fix will be. Yes, the TSB description says it will reduce the condition but until somebody actually has real world experience we won't know. Like i've said earlier in the thread, i hope to have mine done sometime next week. If somebody has theirs replaced before me i'm sure they'll post the outcome.

yeah, its definetely not normal. i dont think you should feel any slack on any new vehicle when you take off from a stop. my thud intensifies especially when i take of on a incline. it almost feels like if floor it from a dead stop it could tear something up. i would think it would get worse over the years.

Mine seems to be the same way, worse when taking off on an incline.

so if your truck is out of the vin range, and its doing the exact same thing that somebody elses truck is doing thats in the vin range, they wont fix it? i believe if you have a good dealer(rare), they should take care of the problem regardless, its still a problem and its still under warranty and they should fix this. i will be taking mine in a couple of weeks when i get back from vacation, and hopefully i will have one of those good dealers.
