Unless Toyota is doing something really, really weird, see below:

hmm.. if you go to the dealer and test drive another 4x4 and it does not thud when you take off and it does not thud when you stop, then your truck is not normal and needs to be fixed like the one you just test drove.

Let me clarify what I was saying: The overwhelming majority of people, when reading about some issue, suddenly convince themselves they have the problem. I was trying to settle some people down that thought they had the issue, when they really didn't. If you can prove to the dealership that you need this TSB then more power to you and have at it! I hope it solves your problem!

yeah i get what your saying about how some can overreact, but i definetely have this problem. when i take off especially on a slight incline it will thud pretty hard, and its not just alittle thud either. if i look in my side mirror you can actually see the bed jump when i take off. the funny thing is if you barely give it gas and take it super easy it wont do it. i also have the stopping thud too. i have never experienced this before in anything i have driven. oh well, enough b!tchen, im sure toyota will take care of it

if yours is like mine its not a normal trait. i can deal with the stopping thud more than the take off thud. my 98 tacoma had the stopping thud also. we paid big money for these trucks and if you think something is not functioning normally just take it in. maybe test drive a couple of tundras on the lot to see how they are.

This forum has helped me once again. My vin falls in the affected range. Haven't really noticed anything as described yet but will be more observant.
Thanks to all you guys.

well I made an appointment to drop off my truck tomorrow. I asked about the vin range and they told me they would have to inspect the truck. only problem is that i need something to tow a trailer, so I called my sales guy that sold me the truck and he saved me a loaner truck to drive while mine is in there. What a nice guy huh. little does he know that I will be putting at least 200 miles a day on it and driving off road cause thats where im working. well enough about that. I was wondering, I dont have a thud when I stop or take off. the thud that I get is after I take off and after I cover about 150 feet. there is a thud coming from the front and not only can i hear it I also feel it. do yall think this part of the same problem we talking about here?

Is it only the first time you take off after starting the truck? If so, that's completely normal as it is the truck's computer running a self check (occurs the first time you reach 15mph after starting your truck).

Really? yea it only does it when I turn it on and take off. I wonder what kind of self check it is cause its really noticable and seems to be coming from the front diff. I'll see if them mechanics are as knowledgeable as you are. thanks... Hmm is knowledgeable a word?

It's a test of the vsc system I believe (applies brakes momentarily, etc).

I took my truck in today, TSB in hand. They checked it out; parts are on order and should be in Mon/Tues. After I get it fixed up, I'll report to let you know if it is gone!
