I took my truck in just this morning. I gave the service guy the TSB. I also mentioned that it appears as though my VIN is outside the range. He seemed to understand that problems will often affect vehicles outside the VIN range and they would see what could be done. At this point I am cautiously optimistic. I will keep you informed.

Update:
The service manager called me back. My vehicle IS inside the VIN range. They verified that my truck has the problem. They have ordered the parts and they will be here tomorrow. I should know if it worked Wednesday evening.

Good luck. It didn't fix mine and I called Toyota Corporate today and started a case. I should hear back from a case manager within a day. I wouldn't have called but my dealer doesn't know what else to do and they said they would call me when they did which could be who knows when.

i dont think its the clunk sound that you can hear, its more of a thud you feel. at least on mine you cant hear it just feel it. some people say clunk, thud, clank. anyway i feel the slack too and i hope thats not the improved slack either. i am going to call the dealer this week and take it in if i can get off work.

I will be going in this Friday to have my dealer look at my truck with this clunk/bump issue. My truck only has 380 miles and I have noticed it from the beginning. I will keep you all posted.

Charged Taco is Mike Blum your service advisor at Arlington?? I have had this problem since the releas of the crewmax 4x4 I had some of the local case managers come rider with me they first thought it was a normal thing but my truck started to lunge forward after the torque converter replacement along with the clunking lag deal. Mike called the other day to let me know about the fix then called two days later to tell me he did the TSB on another and it made it worse. Mine get worse if I am towing my boat too and that really sucks.

I got my truck back this afternoon and the problem is still there. I am going to call my local dealership tomorrow and inform them. I will keep you posted.

Mike is not my service advisor but he has been in the past. My truck probably was the one he was talking about being worse after the TSB. I'm sending you a PM.

A little bit of an update....The service manager from my dealership just called me and told me they have found a fix for this issue. I'm taking my truck in this afternoon for them to perform the "fix" so i'll know by this evening if it worked or not. From what he said, its an issue with the slip yoke which i belive some of us had already speculated. Even with the new driveshaft from the TSB it has not been resolving the issue. I was told they will remove the driveshaft and do something along the lines of adding more lubrication to the internals of the slip yoke. I made him confirm to me they weren't just going to put a grease gun on the external zerk fitting and try and pump it full of grease. I'll let everyone know the outcome this afternoon. He did tell me this fix did cure the exact issue with another one of their customers truck.

Took my truck in this morning for the second time. Funny thing is, they tried to blame it on my tow hitch. I responded back with, "If it was the tow hitch, then why did you change my whole driveshaft to begin with?" I hate dealers, drive me insane that the consumer knows more than the mechanic. Ill let you guys know if they fix it this time.

I just got back from my dealer and FINALLY my truck seems normal!! No more THUD/CLUNK when coming to a stop or taking off. I hope it stays this way. It's the same driveshaft they used while performing the initial TSB but as I stated above, they did something to the slip yoke/splines. It took me calling TMS but it sure seems like it's fixed now.

I got my truck back today after getting the new driveshaft under the TSB. I was so optimistic that it would fix my issue. I have been putting up with this for over 10k miles now. I took off from the parking lot. No clunk! Got to the first stoplight. No clunk! However on the way home, it was back. Not as bad as before, but it was there. SO DISAPPOINTING!! I guess I will ride it around a bit and see how it goes. Otherwise, I will be back.

Also annoying is that I had had it in to three other dealers over time (I have moved cities) and all said it was NORMAL!!
