I just got back from my dealer and FINALLY my truck seems normal!! No more THUD/CLUNK when coming to a stop or taking off. I hope it stays this way. It's the same driveshaft they used while performing the initial TSB but as I stated above, they did something to the slip yoke/splines. It took me calling TMS but it sure seems like it's fixed now.
Hi chargedtaco01,
Who were you working with at the dealer? I'm in St. Aug (Lighthouse Toyota) and would prefer a single trip to the dealer instead of the usual circus antics. Maybe I'll take it to the Arlington shop.

do you think you can find out what they did to fix it? i think i am going to hold off taking my truck in to we know the exact fix. if you can give us an update it would be helpful to everyone with this problem
The drive shafts they are replacing have no lubrication in the split yoke that is why the problem gets worse so they are breaking the new drive shaft down and putting synthetic grease in it to cure the problem. Mine is working fine now as is Taco's we had the same service advisor and manager working both of our deals small world... HAHA ask for Tom Hentchel in service dept tell him Fred told you to call he knows how to fix it. Ther number is 904-721-300. Good luck to all.
I got my truck back today after getting the new driveshaft under the TSB. I was so optimistic that it would fix my issue. I have been putting up with this for over 10k miles now. I took off from the parking lot. No clunk! Got to the first stoplight. No clunk! However on the way home, it was back. Not as bad as before, but it was there. SO DISAPPOINTING!! I guess I will ride it around a bit and see how it goes. Otherwise, I will be back.
Also annoying is that I had had it in to three other dealers over time (I have moved cities) and all said it was NORMAL!!
Mine was fix for about a week. Now the clunk is back just like yours

Thanks
I've been dealing with Thomas Hencel at Arlington as well as the service manager Nelson Ryan. Thomas will know what to do for the fix just as BigDerf stated. They are adding lubrication to the slip yoke.

See BigDerf's post. They are adding lubrication to the slip yoke by breaking down the drive shaft, not just shooting grease in a zerk fitting.
UPDATE - I took my truck in today for the bump/clunk today along with a copy of the TSB. I went for a ride with the technician to verify the bump. He said he has seen a few of these cases and they are able to fix it. He did feel the bump. Later the dealer called and said they are ordering my a new driveshaft. So they will be calling me when the part comes in. Stay tuned.

I had my drive shaft replaced last week. The problem is still there. They let me test drive some other trucks on the lot and they were as smooth as silk. The service manager is going to talk with his corporate rep and see what they can do. At this point I am not optimistic anymore.
I was wondering if the trucks with the tow package, and thus the lower gearing, were more likely to have this problem. My thinking is that the lower first gear is making the engagement rough. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure about that but if you have the issue and have not gone back to have them add lubrication to the internals of the slip yoke, you should have that done. I'd be willing to bet it'll cure your problem. It did for myself and BigDerf. It's been almost a week for me and still no clunk/thud. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

I discussed this with the service manager and he said that he would have not problem doing that. I have to take the truck back to them next week to get an inner door panel replaced under warranty and they will do it then. I will keep you posted.
I just took the truck to the dealer and they said everything is normal. The Toyota tech drove the truck and felt it but said it was the transmission shifting in to 2nd gear before stopping. WTF? I should have printed out the TSB and taken it to them. This is very frustrating with the new truck.
The greasing of even the old diveshafts will work buttttttt....... There is wear and tear from them so get the new ones. Make sure they use synthetic grease they have done almost 15 times at my dealer and it has worked everytime you thought your trucked hooked before watch out!!! It grabs really good now!

Has your dealer done your truck 15 times, or 15 different trucks?
