I would think dragstrip / dyno testing would better show any improvements from this mod compared to monitoring mpg. A restriction in the air intake tract would have its biggest effect at heaviest throttle...
After reading this whole thread I haven't seen any mention of real new trucks. I've got a 5.7 Crew that is less than a week old with 400 miles on her.
Should I wait a bit to take out the filter or reset the computer? Any negative effects to doing this to a newborn? I'll be putting a few thousand on her over the next month.

this thread sitll alive? ok ok i did pop mine out because all ya'll said to...and im not noticing any mpg changes but unless im just blowin smoke up my own arse i notice a bit smoother throttle response and pickup especially when towing the boat....
hi, i have a stupid question.
is the HC filter in the fender wheel well or in the stock air box?
i have changed out my air box a few times, but i wonder if it is in the hole in the fender wheel well.

Reason: spelling
I would also like to know this information. When I changed my air filter I did not see this charcoal filter you speak of. Am I looking in the wrong place or does only trucks going to Ca. have these?

All trucks have them. It's in the top of the airbox.
well, i finally removed mine yesterday. i have been following this thread for a while and thought i had come to the decision that i wasnt going to remove it in case anything ever came up warranty-wise. dont want toyota to be able to say a problem was my fault because i removed it, especially with the extended warranty. but, i was bored last night and with MPG being on my mind constantly, i thought i would try it.
i know people have said they would never even notice it was gone, but is that true? i also got the maintenance program from them. when they change the air filter, you dont think they will notice? really hoping i dont regret doing this someday....
anyways, way too small a sample at the moment. have to give it a cpl of fill-ups to see if there is any improvement.

M not sure if they will notice, but big chance they will probably. But again, since you have a maintenance program for your truck I would strongly suggest you to put them back before going just to be on the safe side not voiding your warranty.

Reason: .
Does anyone know when resetting the computer if I lose all information (phone book, nav destinations, etc?)

No, if you disconnect your battery, you will lose your radio presets and on the Nav side, you lose your customized user settings, but previous destinations, bluetooth connections, address and phone book all stay intact.
You also will lose your current trip and mpg data.
