I consistently get 17.5 at 75 mph, 19.5 at 60 mph. I am not convinced that removing the HC filter would give me any improvement. If it would bump it up to 25 or 30, then I would go for it.
Success of swapping to a Corrola engine will do the trick for you!

Reason: .
i saw zero improvement. i put it back in and am VERY concerned about my extended warranty. i glued it back in place with a clear plastic glue, but i am sure if they were looking for a reason to not honor the warranty, they would find it easily. is it possible to replace the cover of the box? any idea how much a new one would cost ?
I've been thinking of doing this mod for a while and just did it. Disconnected the battery and waiting to reconnect. The HC looks pretty restrictive to me. A few plastic pieces popped off when I removed the HC, I heard them flying around when I cranked the truck, hope they didn't get sucked up in the motor. Ah well ,let me go reconnect the battery, reset the clock and radio then go buy some fried chicken for dinner.
The filter is in the lid of your air filter box. I think removing it is not going to help increasing your mileage...just wishful thinking. It is on the output side of the air filter and as such should not become dirty or restricted. You can easily blow air through the filter media, so it being a restriction is a fallacy. There has been no technical data to show that removing this emissions filter has any effect on engine performance. The 5.7 seldom requires full throttle, which requires a large input of air to the engine. This so called "Mod" is a waste of time, as well as a warranty risk if discovered by the dealer.

I disagree. Removing the HC filter provided a substantial improvement in performance in my Gen 1. I will be evaluating this in the 5.7 shortly.
I have done extensive testing on this mod and I have found this mod works best with cleaner burning gas like Shell in particular. I used cheap gas for for 2 fillups, then shell for the next 2 and I repeated this twice. I found the gain I received from doing this mod went away 1.0-1.2mpg when using cheap non brand gasoline. Shell in particular I found was a good clean burning gas. Lot less condensation coming out of my exhaust for one thing and obviously better mpg. Might be something for you to see for yourselves.

I consistently get between 18 & 19.5 whether I use cheap gas or the more expensive Shell or Chevron. My truck is stock, 37k miles and still runs like new. Water coming out of your tail pipe has nothing to do with the gas in the tank...it depends on what the weather is on a particular day ie: temp and humidity
